A muddied, bloodied, and otherwise dishelveled British officer backs through the Tavern door, "Alright, it wasn't your fault. It was mine. I will make sure that everyone knows." A horse whinnies outside in an unmistakenly scolding tone.

The British officer turns, face slightly red, and marches to the bar straight away. "Helga, a round of drinks to the house. Put it on my tab." Raising his glass of foaming English Ale, the Field Marshal steps upon a nearby chair and addresses the Tavern's occupants. "Gentlemen, if you would please raise your glasses in a toast to the French General Theron Lambert, who has just defeated my armies at Waterloo and Wavre. [B)] It was a near run thing, but in the end, this Frenchman got the best of me. Salute."

Almost forgetting, the Field Marshal adds, "Oh yes, and let it be known throughout Europe that the none of the mistakes that led to my defeat, were the result of any bad advice that I may have received from my gifted and longsuffering steed." [?]

"Drink, drink, and be merry and congratulations again to General Lambert."

On to Brussels my children the Emperor cried and the glorious Armee du Nord rumbled up the road knowing one of our Marechal's batons was safe from Sir Muddy. Congratulations to our magnificient Marechal but allow me to offer the shopkeepers some French Cognac - Helga please bring the Hennessey!

A toast to Sir Muddies horse![:D]

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your kind comments, and especially Sir Muddy Jones for a challenging and always interesting battle. The margin of victory was that I was able to send something approaching a small corps with extra artillery up the road to Brussels as well as capturing Wavre, but the Armee du Nord was but a shadow of its former self when night fell and the battle ended. In the end it was a victory for French arms as is proper, but against one of the most able and gallant of allied officers it was a very close run thing. Sir Muddy, this time I cannot except your sword, for you wielded it far too well and must keep it until the next time we meet.

And now, as soon as the points are tallied I'll be able to pull that highly traveled but never used baton out of my knapsack...
