What is this a General with all that Gold around his neck like a hang man noose, approaches me offering me some fine wine! Oh pardon ma I can not drink the fine stuff for I have stayed to long in this pig pen drinking this cheap stuff with foam on top and my head is spending, I been around this den of vipers to long listing to the tales of the Mud-slinger, what duty calls, ma Division is moving out ma Mon ami, I can’t believe my feeble ears orders from the Corps! Pardon ma as I will endeavor to straighten my drunken self up and prepare to muster in!

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

<i>Mon cher Duc de Rivoli</i>, if memory serves me right my first encounter with His Muddiness took place on the frozen fields of Eylau, lo these many years ago. On the first day of the battle, our noble dragoons carried all before them, but, alas, night fell before we could complete the destruction of the Muscovite forces. During the ensuing night, the Muscovites rallied (No doubt with copius quantities of "the little water"[:D]), established the Mother of All Grand Batteries on the heights beyond Eylau and dared us to continue the assault. An insanely sanguinary battle developed on the morrow, the cold steel of Murat's troopers and Soult's and Augerau's bayonets matched against the lethal blasts of the Muscovite artillery. Through the morning the battle remained at issue and the deadly Muscovite artillery came near to cracking our army. Happily, the gallant Davout arrived in the nick of time and executed a masterful envelopment of the Russian Left which destroyed their Grand Battery securing a notable victory.

Since then we have crossed swords on at least 6 other fields, all of them hard-fought, bitterly contested battles[B)], but that is a tale for another day. So far Mars has smiled on my endeavors, but Sir Muddy remains the most dangerous foe I have ever encountered.

Helga, another round, <i>s'il vous plait</i>!

Regards,

Paco

Marechal Paco an interesting tale allow me to bring this bottle of New Zealand Pinot Noir to your table. Sir Muddy accepted my challenge and I somewhat foolishly promised to feed his horse here in the Rhine Tavern if he defeats me....

Hopefully I can emulate your achievments against him otherwise I shall be heading to the stable for some feed.

Maréchal M. Francisco Palomo:

Your words are too kind. You could have just said that you have six or seven (I lost count) of my swords. I remember our encounter on the frozen tundra -- how could I forget. But in my mind the battles seem to have formed a common memory -- that I have come up short in every one. Yes, they were all grand affairs but to put it bluntly, "<b><font color="red">you own me</font id="red"></b>". Salute.

I might also say the same for Maréchals Bardon and Nowacki.

"Helga, another round for the house. Now, where has that upstart Col. Knox gotten off to? Ah, yes, Jean and Auerstadt." [;)]

Colonel Knox returned from outside the tavern, he had changed his uniform to that of his guard title and he walked with the air of showmanship you would expect of a member of the priviliged albiet over rated 2e Regiment Gardes d'Honneur. The light cavalry of the empire were renowned for their bravado and he was determined to make the battles of Jena-Auerstedt vs Sir Muddy his own.

This round is on me Sir Muddy and Marechal Paco.

Salute!

Col. Knox,

My compliments on your taste in wine, that was a fine bottle of Pinot Noir, truly a noble vintage. I am troubled, however, by the wisdom of your wager with His Muddiness. It partakes more of hubris than <i>elan</i>, a dangerous way to begin a campaign against a deadly opponent[B)].

That said, I commend you on your challenge to Sir Muddy and wish you the best, the finest steel can only be forged in the hottest flames[^].

Regards,

Paco

I agree a little to much hubris but it seemed the best way to get Sir Muddy to the table [:D]. Seriously now he does me great honour by accepting my challenge.
