A question about which hexes exactly are considered "flank" for purposes of this optional rule.

I cut my teeth on ACW games, in which there are two "flank hexes" on either flank.

But the corner-facing in Napoleonics seems to make only one "flank hex".

Can anyone clarify, please?

Many thanks!

You have it right. Two front hexes, a left and right flank hex and two rear hexes.[8D]

Actually with units facing the hex side, as in the ACW games, there are no flanks at all. Three front (facing) hexes, and three rear hexes. Hence, only a rear attack, no flank attack modifier.

In the Nappy games, with units facing the hex spine, as Phil says, two front, two flank, two rear.
