The new feature to dismount dragoons is currently featured in one set of scenrios in Jena. They are:
#09a_1_Zehdenick.scn
#09h_1_Zehdenick.scn
#09h_1_Zehdenick-Solo.scn
#15_09a_1_Zehdenick.scn
#15_09h_1_Zehdenick.scn
As the updated engine came to me I didnt realize that all of the new features that we had asked John to include for a future title would be in this update. Thus I had not gone through all of the OBs to add in the Dragoon unit type for all dragoons types.
By the next update this will be fixed. You are always free to create a new OB based on current ones and change the dragoon type as you wish. Here is the old code:
U 134 5 L S 22 10 1 Sq/9 Dragoon
and here is the same unit with Dragoon/Dismount ability:
U 134 5 D Q 22 10 1 Sq/9 Dragoon
May I add for those of you that dont like the update to just use the older OBs. Just rename your current OBs and PDT files (if you dont like the stacking value of 1800) and then do the update. Then move or delete the new OB/PDT files and rename the older ones back to what they were. This way you gain the benefit of the updates I did to the maps AND you get the 15 min. versions of the scenarios I put together (for those of you that dont like the 10 min. version.).
I wont apologize for the new update. Rich and I agree that 1800 is the best value for stacking while most of the guys I talked to about the morale for the French (Allied and French members of the club) agreed that their morale was too low.
I have a hard time agreeing with anyone that wants to say that the 1806 Prussians could ever have beaten Napoleon. I cant change history nor downgrade what was the best army on the continent.
One of the reasons why I didnt go into rush mode and update all of the OBs for the French dragoons was that I felt that while it was historical it was not expedient to do so. While they could dismount they rarely did. I like the rule where it follows historical usage but feel that its going to be abused. However, you have a text editor and are free to copy the OBs and make your own versions.
I think its a terrible mistake to go to a split view on this issue. Its only going to lead to confusion in future games. Folks are going to get used to infantry in Line being able to undisorder using the new update while those that play with the older are going to have the older large Jena map that has alot of errors on it.
But suit yourselves guys. I wont apologize for what I think is the most ambitious update I have done to date. And John did alot of work that I thought would remain for a future title but now is fully available for you (and soon to be in WC too).
There were many other things corrected in the .scn files as well. If you want to play with the past errors go ahead but I think you will soon get used to the newer update and it will pass like the 1600 stacking and 10 min moves did for many that disagreed with me when Jena came out.
BTW: the update has 15 min. move versions of the scenarios. For those of you that didnt like 10 min. moves all of the standalone scenarios have a 15 min. version.
