Les Grog's has just had PreOrders released.

You can download the demo. It's v.1 and is not as stable as would be perfect but plays well. Happy to help you along with it.

I think they're both good games and don't want to hazard a response here at NWC. However, LG is newer and is a very different format from HPS-Russia. Try the LG demo - and revisit it when the v.2 demo arrives. I really like the ability to order complete formations (divisons and corps) to do things and have the AI carry out the orders.

Yes, I would also like to give orders and see the formation move as ordered without units getting intermingled.

Some sort of formation movement would be nice. Basically either on the road in a column or in the field moving with the same spacing more or less as when you ordered the formation.

My only drawback on HistWar will be the full window approach. Sigh, but the older I get the less I can handle of this game approach. I feel like I am watching something with a hood over my head!

I hope that they get the kinks out of the game. Once that happens and the response here looks good I may get it just out of curiosity.

I haven't got into the Total War napoleonic mods. You'll have to google around to find out or maybe someone here can help. Try starting a new thread with a title about TW.

I think I have them Maarten.

I think you need Rome: Total War and the Alexander module if I am not mistaken. Or maybe that was for another module.

Anyway, its big so I cant send it to you.

Or you might just want to wait for it to come out:

http://www.sega.com/games/napoleon-total-war/

And for US customers you can get it at:

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product ... affid=9797

I cant find the link for the module.

All,

I have played the demo a fair amount, and while there are a number of things I like it seems that the AI may need a bit of work. The thing that bothers me the most is the propensity of cavalry to go on suicide missions by themselves -- they will charge out way in front of the main body and continue charge after charge until they are deep in the enemy lines at which point they rout and surrender (I've even had them surrender to infantry). Then about 60% of the time they "escape" but will not reengage -- they just head for the rear. Even if you try to micromanage them by giving them an order to pull back it may not work, and if it does they usually turn around and do it again. Light infantry will do the same although to a lesser extent.

Units also seem a bit too predisposed to surrender. I've had friendly units surrender behind my main line to overaggressive enemy cavalry that shortly thereafter surrenders in turn.

The imbalance in the units' actions in the demo is clumsy, I agree. I'm betting that the problem is the lack of the doctrine editor in the demo. A play tester commented to me about its importance (and I've seen other PTs echo that comment). Hopefully the demo v.2 or v.3 might achieve the charm of the Take Command demos.

I can not speak for Les Grognards,
but HPS Nap. Russian Campaign is a great. I like it because of the high number of stand alone battles. In addition to Borodino it has a lot of interesting campaign battles and then 15-20 other decent sized historical battles. Cannot go wrong with that.

NRC is one of my favorite games in the series. Mainly because of the topic.

I am considering putting out a pack of scenarios for it using 10 min. turns, my PDT format I use in the games I am doing as well as weather lines for the battles. Mainly the Dawn/Dusk times with diminishing visibility.

Also the new features in the later PDT files that are out in the later games.

And allow for the Russian and French dragoons to dismount perhaps (now that we have the rule that allows infantry to attack cavalry in obstructed terrain).
