It is my great pleasure to introduce the latest French recruit to raise fear in the hearts of both his instructors at the Ecole and the allied infestation.

Please welcome, as he buys you a drink, Cadet Hugo Esteller

Welcome Hugo!

Always good to see another defender of la patrie, especially one who's buying drinks. I'll take my usual

Cheers!

Marechal Bardon's "usual" is a A duck fart.

1/2 oz Jack Daniel's
1/2 oz amaretto almond liqueur
1/2 oz Bailey's Irish cream

If he wants a runny duck fart...then just add coke.

and don't forget his prune juice chaser...

A Hanoverian officer quietly sits at his usual table near the far wall of the tavern. An open bottle of Jagermeister rests near his left hand, an empty shot glass nearby. He chuckles quietly to himself at the good, French Marechal's comments. Allied infestation, indeed, he thinks to himself. Carefully laying his pen down, he rubs his face as if to wipe away the strain, after all, the duties of command can be a most responsible burden. Grasping the shot glass in his left hand, he carefully pours it full of Jagermeister with his right. Sliding back his chair, he stands and raises the shot glass to his fellow taverneers.

"A toast to Cadet Esteller! May he survive the perils of battle long enough to see his first promotion."

With that, the Hanoverian officer empties the shot glass in one gulp, and smacks it down onto the table with a resounding clack.

"And may his horse always be swift enough to overtake his panicked men each time they encounter the mighty Anglo-Allied Army on the field of battle."

Welcome to the NWC, Hugo! I hope you will frequent our fine tavern. There are a lot of good officers here lurking in the shadows of these four walls. Always listen to their grand stories with an impartial ear, for the greatness of each tale grows with the telling, and is often directly proportional to the amount of alcohol consumed prior to its beginning. :D

No sooner does the first toast end than the very infestation of which the good Marechal speaks begins to materialize. Right on cue.

This particular brand of vermin is characterized by the red of their coats, and the sly wit that passes for bravado. Within the confines of the Rhine, good for conversation, but on the field, better to simply run them down. It is readily distinguishable from the other notions of delusion that pervade the lost coalition cause. I have no doubt the good cadet will soon become accustomed to seeing them about the tavern, like the bombastic cowards in black, a pale shadow of the once magnificent army of Frederick, making those grandiose claims to victory that only true fops may make.

Undaunted, the Hanoverian officer calmly refills his shot glass. Raising his glass once again, he turns to face the venerable Commander of Le Tondu's respected Vieille Garde.

"Ah, my dear Marechal Bardon, it is so good to see you well, my friend. I had a certain nagging thought in the back of my mind that you might have inadvertently become a casualty to my last cavalry charge that overran one of your batteries and dispersed your blue coated men. Now that would certainly have been a pity as I do so enjoy your company. To your continued good health, sir!"

Again, the Hanoverian downs the contents of the small glass in one gulp. Setting his glass more gently on the table this time, he says, "I am afraid that in the future, I may be the only red coated, German vermin to verbally contest you in this establishment."

The Hanoverian officer pensively looks at his shot glass as if contemplating yet another round, but decides better of it as he retakes his seat, picks up his pen and resumes the staff work that seems to occupy so much of his time nowadays.

In this magnificent day, I have the honor to join in the french army. As I am allowed to challenge allied officers, the english blood (my prefer, besides the Russian) flowed to mix with mud.

Thanks to the french officers for their welcome. Waitress! Bring me a spanish wine bottle! You are all invited to taste the flavors of spain! Even though my compatriots are savages, they know enjoy life...
You can try my hipflask of "orujo", too! The allied officers are invited!

I would challenge this bad-mannered hannoverian officer... You'll regret it someday!

Vive la France! Vive L'Empereur!

Welcome to the club Hugo! While it is sad to see you settle on the French army we do need more cannon fodder to work over before we take on the Jeff Bardon's of this world.

While Mark is busy at the moment with train rides and the campaign trail there are plenty of us that will take you on in a game. Just post your game on the Opponents Wanted forum and someone will gladly take up the fight!

We hope you enjoy the club and the banter here is purely for fun. Never take it seriously and you will enjoy the club that much more!

Thanks. Cannon fodder... remember, my prussian friend, that the Empereur began as a caporal.

Good luck in your battles.

Well said, Cadet!

And Herr Jones, I assure you, though batteries are often risked in the course of a battle and it is a shame to see some lost, when the opportunity for payback presents itself, it is that much much more sweet.

Cheers!

The Hanoverian officer frowns as he compares the writings on two pieces of parchment. When Generaal Bijl is in a hurry, his penmanship often suffers, he thinks to himself. In any case, I certainly hope I have transcribed this correctly. It simply would not do to get this wrong.

Without taking his eyes from the orders at hand, he says "I have no doubt that you are even now plotting the demise of my good men, Marechal Bardon. You are a very competent commander, and your status in the Old Guard certainly does demand respect. You and Marechal Corbin may yet drive me from the field before the arrival of my Prussian allies and the venerable Generaal Moss seals your doom."

Satisfied that the papers actually do match, he looks up to catch the steady gaze of the French Guardsman. "I cannot promise the outcome, mon ami, but only that I will not go gentle into that good night."

Giving Marechal Bardon a broad grin, he turns his attention to the newest, French cadet. "And as for you, good sir, please allow me to buy you a drink. It has been a long time since a young cadet has stood his ground so well against one of my toasts."

Turning to the beautiful barmaid, he says "Helga, please bring this young, French lion a drink of whatever he likes and place the cost on my tab. If his skill on the field of battle is even half a match for his courage, it would seem that Le Tondu may have a fine officer in the making."
