Gentlemen,

Today is the 199th aniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of the entire Napoleonic wars. Let us consider for a moment all those brave souls who took part in this epic battle.

The roar of cannon, the pounding of the cavalry on the soil, the silence of the Russian infantry.

My first Napoleonic large battle boardgame was La Bataille de la Moskova.

Get your airplane ticket ready!

If I could make it I would fly to Berlin, catch a train and go first to Warsaw and then to Smolensk and thence to Borodino. Follow along the invasion route so to speak.

I would then stay til winter and try and get out of the country before the cossacks caught me! :mrgreen: My own personal reenactment! :wink:

I will drink to that! Heck, I will probably drink to almost anything if the truth be known! :mrgreen:

To our stalwart Russian comrades, who bravely stood their ground, defending their capitol (momentarily at least) against the ruthless invasion of the Empire of France. 8)

To the ruthless, French invaders who came so near to subjugating the world to the whims of the military genius they chose to lead them. :twisted:

To bravery and sacrifice on all sides, honorably given in the service of their countries. To the men who gave the full measure while following the beliefs they held dear in their hearts. :(

A toast to the memory of all of the veterans of the Battle of Borodino! :P

Psssst, Helga. Please double up on the alcohol in Cadet Esteller's drink as per our usual arrangement. It would not do for him to drink Marechal Bardon under the table in his first outing. :wink:

According to my Kindle, I am 52% of the way through the epic War and Peace. The French have invaded Russia and Smolensk has fallen, but the Battle of Borodino is still to come (or I hope it is).

I've got it on my Kindle also, have to make it my next read as soon as I finish Gettysburg July 1. I've also got Nafziger's Napoleon's Invasion of Russia on the Kindle too. Might have to make it a Russian October!

Ah, the British Marshals, such brave and dedicated soldiers! There are 1,225 pages, or thereabout, in that particular Russian tome. :o :shock: :P
