Greetings Hugo,

Welcome to La Grande Armee.

Congratulations, I see you have already crossed verbal swords with the enemy and have acquitted yourself well.

Vive l'Empreur!

Thanks again, to the french officers, by his courtesy.

Mark, you're probably right, but if you have any doubts I will be pleased to cross swords with you. I'm sure that you're a honorable rival for me.

Salutations

Hugo, I always welcome a game with an honorable opponent, but I am currently committed to six of them, three of which easily turn around one or two turns per day. Well, they would if I could manage to keep up. I am currently working on a turn against your C-in-C, Marechal Jensen. It is, I hate to admit, very long overdue.

I am also the Staff Adjutant for the Anglo-Allied Army and a hopeful candidate for the Presidency of our club. All of which tend to keep me rather busy at the moment.

I take it from your posts that you tend more toward a veteran than a shavetail Sous Lieutenant.

I want to commend you on your posting here in the forum. Many newly assigned French officers never even visit the forum the first time to acknowledge the toast presented on their behalf. Of course, given the drinking habits of many of the senior officers, coupled with the fact that the costs of their welcoming party are placed entirely on their newly commissioned tabs, I can certainly understand their reticence. Marechal Bardon has a particularly nasty, and consistent, tendency to consume his alcohol by the barrel, rather than the glass, on each and every occasion my poor Hanoverian Brigade is footing the bill. I must admit that he does well cover the whole spectrum of inflicting harm on his adversaries, both militarily and economically.

I do so hope you will continue the fine trend you have established with posts here in the Rhine Tavern. I personally very much enjoy the banter and participate as much as I am able. General Peters spoke correctly when he said that such banter is intended for fun, and should never be taken seriously.

Now, Cadet Esteller, I must admit to having a very curious nature and active interest in all of the officers in our fine club. I see that you are from Spain. Excellent! I am always glad to see officers joining our ranks from all parts of the world. The international aspect of our club is fascinating to me. I have developed many friends here from many countries that I wish I had the means and time to visit. What can you tell us of yourself, gaming experience or personal as you so choose? What led you to the NWC, and what prompted you to join on the side of France?

Do not worry, Mark, I understand that you do not want to have a battle with a cadet. I probably would the same in your situation. When rumors of my wins come to your ears...
We can play a small battle. Consider it a personal favor. This would a big honor for me.

Perhaps I talk like a veteran. I come from a "military" family. During my childhood and adolescence I learned the art of war, from my father. He was a brilliant french officer. This is reflected in my results at the école militaire 8).
Consider me a young officer in search of glory.

I'm shocked!
How can you say that!?
Drink, please, drink!!
I am pleased to invite as many good officers!!

Otherwise, it is true; the jokes in this tavern can be tolerated (is very difficult be quiet after drinking).
Although there is always the alternative of saber!!!

I've joined at the french army for more reasons.

1- Principles: I defend the rights of the french people and the Empereur, stepping over kings and mercants.

2- Feelings: I love france (and the french womens) with intensity.

3- Family tradition.

4- Aesthetics: See a french army marching is... indescribable.

5- Physical need: I need to KILL, and see die... and the french army is expert in this business .

Nice à dialoguer avec vous.

Yes, Hugo, I can tell you are going to be a fine officer! I truly do admire your spirit and enthusiasm. You and I shall have a game one day, I promise. I look forward to seeing you grow in this club and rise through the ranks. Oh, my poor Allied brothers! If you are another Jeff Bardin or Colin Knox in the making, then the Coalition forces may well be hard pressed in the future. That is certainly not to say that we do not have some very excellent officers as well. Legends abound throughout this club in every army. A great group of guys, one and all. :P :P :P

Well, I suppose I should tuck my Anglo-Allied recruitment papers back in my brief. You appear to have a long history with the French army, and I doubt that there is any chance whatsoever that I could manage to subvert you to the Coalition's cause. I actually carry them with me in the false hope that I will one day succeed in getting the commander of your Vieille Garde Chassuers a Cheval, General de Division Colin Knox, drunk enough to sign them.

In truth, there is not enough wine in the world for that to ever occur, but one must always have hope.

Welcome to the NWC and the Rhine Tavern. Thank you for the round of drinks. As a cavalry officer, make sure that you invest in a good horse and sabre. I look forward to crossing swords with you in the future.
