Ens. Browne it is a time honored tradition that you buy a round for the house (two rounds for Field Marshalls, French Marechals and Senior Generals of our Allies).

By the end of that you should be broke and will be ready to assume your duties.

It is always good to have yet another fine, British soldier to return to the French the "Reign of Terror" that they foolishly unleashed on the world twenty or so years ago now. The fact that you are buying me this first drink only further endears you to me."

Rising from his customary seat, the Hanoverian Lieutenant Colonel picks up a shot glass from his table and holds it high in the air in a respectful toast. “To Ensign Browne; May your victories be numerous, your defeats few, and may no Frenchman ever emerge unscathed from a battle with you!”

The Hanoverian tilts back his head and consumes the Jagermeister shot in one gulp, smacking the glass on the table as the amber liquid burns a path to his stomach. With a broad grin, he captures the gaze of the young, British officer as he completes his toast. “In fact, may no Frenchman emerge at all!”

Welcome, Ensign Browne!

I see the good Field Marshall has acquainted you with the traditional draining of the purse. It is a much loved ritual, routinely practiced by most of the armies. The theory is that a penniless officer will seek to gain glory, loot and victory in a more determined fashion than a stodgy aristocrat whose parents purchased their commision. As the British cavalry has often been noted for its gentrified stature, I sincerely hope that yours is not such a tale.

As to the poor besotted Hanoverian beside you, tis a rousing good toast, to be sure, but one that is a bit more drunken fantasy than reality. Anyway, welcome and should we face each other at some point on the field of honor, let us remember the pleasantries of the tavern as we launch various implements of war at one another.
