On behalf of the NWC Cabinet, and all of the members of our club, I would like to extend our sincere congratulations to John Corbin for being chosen to receive the 2011 NWC Long and Meritorious Service Award. This is the first award in a new line of medals that is being created to be bestowed by the NWC Cabinet on members who have shown exemplary dedication to the NWC and our hobby through administrative and creative functions such as club leadership, website management, game design, game modifications, and numerous other beneficial acts.
The NWC Long and Meritorious Service Award is the highest honor the Cabinet can bestow upon a member of our club. It is awarded by a unanimous vote of the NWC Cabinet for someone who has performed extraordinary duties for the benefit of the entire club, and all of its armies. In his six year term as the President of our club, John Corbin has always been fair and impartial, placing the goals of the club above the interests of the individual armies. He has been a team builder and a calm voice of reason when disagreements arose. He, along with Chuck Jensen and Dominik Derwinski, was instrumental in the formation of our current Department of Records System. It was John’s influence, more than any other, who provided the steady voice of encouragement which led the Army Commanders to embrace this new, and better, system while setting aside the older, more cumbersome methods to which they had become so accustomed.
Gentlemen officers of the NWC, please join me in a toast to John Corbin, the first recipient of the NWC Long and Meritorious Service Award, and a man to which we all owe a great debt of gratitude.
Congratulations, John!
