Phoeey on Waterloo. An addendum to the Wars in fact. Napoleon met his downfall at this battle - Leipzig! On this day, the 3rd day of the battle (with the 16th & 18th being the first) the glorious armies of the Allies took the city. Napoleon had abandoned them to their fate. A key bridge was blown and one of his most ardent supporters, Poniatowski, was left to swim (unsuccessfully) across the Elster river.

Pretty much speaks for itself. When the going gets rough, Napoleon takes off. Please show me once where the Emperor hung in there to the end? Certainly none of those battles where by chance a unit or two was closing in on his position. Nor in Russia where he was surprised by cossacks. These were just chance encounters.

When the going got rough, the carriage got going ...

1812 - runs back to Paris to rebuild another army - instead of suing for peace and giving Europe a break
1813 - runs from Leipzig leaving his rearguard to be captured
1814 - he leaves Paris to its fate on some wild chase to cut the Allied (Hauptarmee) line of supply
1815 - instead of surrendering honorably to Wellington he has his carriage take him back to the southwest leaving his Guard to their fate

This is what you get for backing the Corsican.

Yes, today marks the REAL downfall of Napoleon. It was at Leipzig that his army was brought to battle and destroyed.

Join the Coalition! Fight with the true defenders of European peace. And hey, Join Prussia and know what it is like to fight alongside men (and women too!) that will not quit and run!

A very catchy phrase, Bill! Why, I'll bet you could even write a song around it.

I actually remember watching the Emperor drive away in his carriage in Russia, leaving us Westphalians to die in the bitter cold and barren landscape. My younger brother being among those to perish. Yes, I remember the Corsican well, although I was only a Corporal then. Some things you never forget, much less forgive. I have a debt to repay, and this fine rifle that the British have provided to me will be my means of retribution.

Remain ever diligent in your duties General Knox, for if you relax, even the least little bit, I will be there to take the shot and end the life of the simpering coward that deigns to be a King. We Jagers have a motto: One shot, one kill. All I need it the briefest of opportunities. Long live the King, and death to the Corsican Usurper!

 Oh Colin is guessing again.

But hey, it never hurts to try!

Actually Campaign Bayou is my next title and Cliff helped out on the research. It is a hypothetical game about Cajuns and Creoles fighting for the French possessions in the New World. John Tiller hired a Cajun band to do the background music. You wont want to miss this one ... :D

Leipzig is neat and all but I'm still waiting for the Peninsular Campaign. Incompetent French generals and brave spaniards about sums it up. :D

You guys can keep the South and Texas (not the same - just ask any Texan). Heat and humidity are a mean combo.

I do not like five months of Winter here in Boise but the old days of five months of Summer in California were a bit much ... starting to get my flannel shirts out for the days ahead ...

The South is nice to visit in the Spring and Fall. I can't think of any reason any more to visit Texas other than to see San Antonio or Palo Duro Canyon.
