Napoleonic Wargame Club (NWC)

It has finally happened.

Mr Rietveld enlisted in the Anglo Allied army in December 1800. So, after 11 years of tough fighting he reached the rank of Generaal in the Dutch army.

Besides all this Mr Rietveld is also the long term commander of our I corps.

Send him your congrats + loads of presents. He likes these special Corsican cigars and 11 year old French wine. He likes other things too, but these we cannot repeat here at this forum because Helga is also reading this. Oh dear oh dear no we cannot repeat that here.

At the fine words uttered by his Russian ally, a Hanoverian Colonel who has long been drinking to the health of the revered Generaal Rietveld, Commander of the magnificent Anglo-Allied Guards, raises his head from the table where he had been resting. Though his vision is blurred, he succeeds in closing his hand around a shot glass filled with Jagermeister. Shooing away the proffered hands of his Lieutenants who are seated with him, he manages to rise to his feet of his own accord. Wavering in place, he extends his arm skyward in a toast. “Death to them dang Frenchies” he utters as he quickly brings the shot glass to his lips, tilting his head back to swallow his most prized of all libations. Not spilling a drop, he falls backward like a felled tree, landing flat on his back, arms and legs splayed out in unconsciousness. In such a state, he fails to hear the laughter of his loyal men as they shake their heads, pick up their beloved leader and carry him back to his tent where he can sleep off the day’s festivities.

And he was before his time too! With no games in the club inventory I suspect that he had his Dutch soldiers put through their paces during peacetime!
