My dear General Ludwig, you really must study your history more, sir. Prussia remained a sovereign nation when it aided the French in the invasion of Mother Russia. It is a factual statement that Hanoverians also entered Russia as a part of the French invading force in the white uniforms of Westphalia; Westphalia, my good Prussian comrade, not Hanover. Now why in the world would Hanoverians fight for The Roach under any name other than Hanover, you ask. Well, the answer is very simple. It is because our tiny nation was gifted to the Empyreal Numbskull by the Russians at Tilsit after you Prussians totally botched your Great War of 1806. My poor countrymen had no choice but to march into Russia and die with La Grande Armee. We had been betrayed to him by all of you puff chested major powers.
Now regarding 1815 and the Battle of Waterloo, the Hanoverians performed exemplary service that day. They did not run as you purport. They in fact took exceedingly heavy casualties while maintaining their positions. The E Morale Hanoverian troops that are represented in our games were never engaged in the actual battle. They are consistently engaged by the Old Guard in our games, but that did not happen in reality. Napoleon did not have the omnipotent advantage that the French players have in our games to controllably target the weakest units with their very best.
And of the Hanoverians in the King’s German Legion, well, their reputation speaks for itself. Wellington always considered the Hanoverians to be among his very best troops.
The Dutch-Belgians were much maligned in this engagement as well. Again, a case of the major powers, in this particular instance Britain, writing the history. Were it not for the forward deployment of the Dutch-Belgians at Quatre Bras on the 16th, decidedly against orders I might add, your vaunted Prussians would most likely have suffered a catastrophic defeat on the fields of Ligny that day.
I don’t think the Prussian Army of 1815 ever received the great credit that it truly deserved, but the much inferior Prussian Army of 1806, which believed itself to be invincible, is what catapulted our small nation into the waiting arms of the Corsican Ogre and brought ruin to your large nation for many years to follow.
As for the Hanoverians in my brigade, we are a proud part of the Anglo-Allied Army and no nation, French or otherwise, is ever going to overrun us again.
