Drawing strength from the sound of the Thracian Orpheus’ lyre and the chorusing songs that drowned out those of the sirens trying to lead them to their doom, they were able to reach the Black sea. (According to myth, wine –colored doves fed the infant Zeus in a Cretan Cave and offered him ambrosia, the elixir of immortality.) Certain mythorgraphers claim that Triton, a sea –god rising from the depths of the Bosphorus, held the gigantic rocks apart as the Argo sailed through and that the Symplegadae never moved again. The boat Argo (Swift), bearing the name of its legendary builder, Argus, boasted mythological heroes as

As the day becomes night, and then the pale early morning light creeps through the glazed windows of the tavern, Helga, sweeping the floors and wiping the tables around the few remaining officers still involved in their drinking, spinning of exploits, and some yet fast asleep, took note of a man not seen before in the establishment.
She had scarcely noted him through the course of her typically busy evening. He had been sitting all evening at a small table in a corner near to wear that Tirailleur and his talkative companion had been. She recalled that he had been drinking coffee and asked if he would like some more.
The man was a stranger in the midst of the usual crowd found in the tavern, all marked by the respective uniforms they wore. This one wore no such attire, but rather, had on casual pants and shirt, over which he had a tweed jacket. He also was frequently to be found smoking a pipe. Even now she saw it was clenched in his jaw, smoke curling up.
And he was doing something else as well, indeed, she now recalled he had been busy doing it all night - he was writing in a thick journal book, a pen and ink well upon the table, by the ever present cup of coffee.
He smiled at her offer, and then went back to writing. "What then are you doing sir?" She could no longer resist the question.
"That should be elementary my dear woman, I am writing." He smiled as he replied. His accent marking him as one of the same race as the Anglo officers who were wont to go about in kilts. But his brogue was characterized by a refined education. Meaning, she could understand him.
"Yes sir, I see that you are writing, but what are you writing?"
"Ah, that will no doubt become a tale in of itself. However, it is simply this, I'm taking down all that the French artillerist has been saying. It's amazing in its breadth and scope."
"And tangents," Helga remarked.
"Yes, those too," he smiled at her still.
"But whatever for?" she wanted to know.
"Well, I'm a physician by training, but my passion is writing stories. Right now, I'm most interested in the period in which the patrons of this tavern seem acquainted. The Wars of Napoleon. Some day I will put all of these notes I've been taking into a coherent plot, and perhaps publish a story, I'm sure."
"Good luck with that," Helga told him and then turned away, back to the endless rounds of chores.
"Yes, a fine story these tales will make," the writer said aloud to himself. Then - "Careful kitty!" as he gently warded off the gray cat that suddenly appeared upon his table, walking right over his open journal, and dangerously close to knocking over the ink well.

Their Third and forth squads were under brigadier’s Timothee Timonier and Chiron Charlot and a doctor by the name of Alexandre Guerisseur these homme sailed from Italy to here. A Hanoverian Guardsman enters the tavern early in the morning following his rather late departure the night before. A grin spreads across his tanned face as he spies the French Colonel Dumas still seated at the same table that he occupied last night. The good Colonel of Horse Artillery is still talking, relating his unending tales to a civilian who seems to be raptly recording every word. They must have been at this all night!

Still grinning, he catches the eye of the lovely Helga as she dutifully renders the tavern fit for another day of business. She returns his smile and asks, "Good morning Colonel. Would you like a bite of breakfast before you depart for your duties?"

"That would be splendid", he replies as he takes his seat at his usual table, carefully placing his Dragoon's helmet in the seat next to him.

Helga fixes a plate of biscuits, jam and fruits along with a large glass of juice, and delivers it to the table of the Hanoverian Commander who is still shaking his head and grinning at the perpetual narrative of Colonel Dumas. "So what are your duties today, Colonel", asks Helga as she places the meal before the red, coated officer of the King's Army.

"Oh, Helga", says the Colonel as he turns his blue eyes to meet hers, "you know, just the usual killing of Frenchman and making arrangements for the prisoners that our fine officers capture. Now that one there", he says as he nods in the direction of Colonel Dumas, "I think I will let them keep."

I thought I wake up early and tack a walk before I return to the front! The sky was lit by this full Moon and it was as it was day light. I pop into the Rhine Tavern to find some company, there setting writing in his book was that garcon, Bon ju Mon ami are you ready for more? http://s1071.photobucket.com/albums/u503/DumasCliff/
Major Boquer command which consisted of four hundred and fifty Cheval and four Artillery guns, we were to guard the topographical unit of Colonel Remi. Once in Turkey we were to move northeast with a group of Truc’s to the mer Noir (black Sea) once there L’a Colonel told me that we would be mapping the western approaches of the Dardanelles and the inlets of the Marmora Sea. Much like the Greeks of old the Argonauts, we went by land and sea the second company went over land with Colonel Remi and my Artillery guns were posted behind him at the port, Joc’s units were now marins that went by boat west, this didn’t help Joc’s disposition at all. L’a Major was left behind due to poor health from his hostility tours the Rumeli guides, he has pneumonia! One should never feel that he‘s better then the man house he visits! Now I was the senior officer in this command I would now command the escadron! A Truc officer by the name of Mutsa would now be commander of the artillery guns. The command now seems strange it appeared as though the Truc were in command of the whole expedition because of our uniforms that Colonel Remi and our host and I wore. The homme just looked puzzle at us, it was time that they got rid of their old ways and prejudices and accepted the fact that we weren’t in Europe any more and that we were now the guest of the Truc’s!
My thoughts on this expedition were, with the Austrian Empire crushed by L’a Emperor and the Prussians and their allies the Saxons and the western Russian Army almost destroyed. The only other Great Empire that stood in the way of L’a Emperor was the Turkish Empire of Sultan Selim III. It now stands to reason that Napoléon would have to come to some kind of a peace with this vast and ever growing Empire. Much like the Parisian Empire of old that stood in the way of Alexander the Great. He would one day come to blows with the Great Selim one way or the other.

The scribe at the corner table greets the Colonel with a wave of his hand. "The illustrations of your mameluke uniform, and of the various units on your expedition are most excellent, and will make the tale all the more delightful good sir. Who would have thought that in this day and age we would be hearing of new adventures in the world of A Thousand and One Nights?" He put aside his journals, pens and the ink well, to make room for the plates of food that Helga was now carrying to set before them. "Please, join me in breaking the fast, sir, for storytelling, and the thought of returning to the front must make one hungry."
Helga served them plates of eggs and potatoes, and thick slices of bread, spread with creamy butter and jams. There was even a small dish set on the floor for Josephine who came running from the shadows to take her fill as well.

I was up early, and for me after the long talk that I had with the writer, I hurried back to the place of words for now that pig pen now has some meaning in my life! Bonju mon ami are you ready for more I feel wonderful today had a nice rest and enjoyed the weekend . Ok let's began,http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u503/DumasCliff/kliffDumas.jpg
It appears that the war of 1799 in Egypt taught the Emperor, that the English would surly try to enforce their will over the Turkish Empire. Diplomacy would be the way that he or was it his foreign minister Monsieur d’ Talleyrand chose for this moment. My thoughts were I knew the Emperor to be two faced and that at the same time he would woe with peace and he would attack with war. He prays to two Gods, Venus and Mars! And he worships only himself! Was I slowly becoming anti- Napoleon yes for I never love this man and I serve my country and what was left of the Revolution? After three thousand years of war in Europe. I believe that cost millions in lives and untold amount of money. Napoleon believed in his mind that he would be the one to unite Europe under one Government and that he would be the one to unite the world under European donation. He was sending us to usher in this new world order.
Our host, Mutsa could speak perfect French he said that he was taught French in 1795 in a school set up for diplomatic service. He told me that he remembered when Napoleon visited his country in 96. He believes but he did remember him. He said that the Emperor wanted to know all he could about everything, a young inquisitive individual. As for the Harem girls all we saw were vale hags in black dresses all of the time so much for the Arabian nights! The weather was hot in the day much like Italy in 99 and cold at night, the only different was the rain which seldom happens in this dry God forsaken land. The mountains made it impossible for our horses to move through we had to rely on the Truc’s mules for our troops. The garcons gave way to native dress. We went from a well dress French Armee to a Middle Eastern mob, not at all what Le Major would want if he was with us! This is not the land of Alexander the Great but the land of Mohammed and Allah! No dancing Harem girls or great feast but over religious people and sheep. Nor is it the land of the Greek myth of Jason and his quest for the Golden Fleece! The Golden Fleece is Turc, and its way to the east, India and China, but to the North lays the Giant Bear Russia.

"Ah, good morning Colonel Dumas," the scribe greeted his new friend with a warm welcome. "Coffee or tea to warm the soul this fine morning?" He poured cream into his empty cup before filling it with the coffee and stirring. "How interesting to hear a veteran officer make note of his displeasure for the Empereur. Ah, here comes the Lieutenant of Tirailleurs, let's see what he might have to say on the subject."
The Lieutenant sat down joining his boon companions. The scribe put the question to him, and then settled back, waiting for the answer.
The Tirailleur remained thoughtful for some time, indeed, for so long the scribe wondered if an answer would be forthcoming. But, he was not to be disappointed.
"Yes, the passions that L'Empereur arouses in the hearts of men, even of his own, are complex, and hot to be sure." He paused while a pot was set before him. "Ah, thank you Helga, toast and jam with my tea please." Then, turning back to his fellows he continued.
"Many men had doubts in their minds when the First Consul made himself Empereur. Had not the Revolution done away with 'rule by one'? Yet that was many years ago now as well. Years had passed, and rule by the many had not been so pleasant either. The Committees of Public Safety (early shades of Orwellian government speak there) had resulted in Terror and chaos. And the enemies of what the Revolution had achieved ending Tyranny of Monarchy would not cease in their endless invasions of our land. After so much turmoil, it is not surprising that a return to the rule of one should be the result. Nor that such a ruler would arise from the ranks of the army that defended the realm. An army can best be led by one general, so why not a whole land?
The difference being, the ideal of 'rule for a term' not yet being fully understood." The Lieutenant pauses to have a bite of his toast before going on. "The wars never seemed to end, and as long as there is war, there needs to be, for us, in our times, one commander of the army and the nation. Will there ever be peace? It does not seem for this generation that there will be." He raises the mug of tea and drinks deeply. "But that is why I, a German, wear the uniform of an Italian unit, and serve in the French army - to bring about a peace that has the result of each state governing itself, for the people, and not for the few. But the wars must be won first.
So much for politics, let us hear more of the Colonel's adventures in the Near Orient!"

As I set and listen to the young Lieutenant view on the Emperor I could not wait to tell him why I thought so of the Emperor. Mon ami I know that the Emperor has put fire in all young garcons heart. He, talks of Glory like it’s free and all you have to do is pick it up. I was called and many Mulattos’ were too. We form a Regt. in 95. We join in mass no doubt like you young homme’s of Germany. In 1799 many went to Egypt with him many were put in the Artillery companies when they arrived in Egypt we had a Mulatto General by the name of Thomas Dumas in charge of the Cavalry Corps this General and Napoléon had a parting of ways but only after Napoleon ordered them the Artillerist to fire on the timeless Sphinx's . Now the reason was because the Sphinx's had a face of the people of Africa. Much like the Romans who chopped down the trees of the Land of Ham and gave the region the Roman conquers name. An in 1802 Napoleon sent a special order to all commands that all combat Officers of African descent be removed and place in labor companies. All do to his failure to win over the Haitians and the lost of his brother-in – Law.
General Thomas Dumas was poison in his cell in Italy in 03, after giving the Emperor a fortune in Egypt. Now you see my young Lieutenant, if he would have done that to your people now how would you feel! Now more of my Tale Monsieur; http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u50 ... /harem.jpg
There are no dancing Harem girls no wild feast no magic carpet rides or genie’s in the bottle at least not here in Istanbul on the East side of the Dardanelles, it's cold and dry. No Helen of Troy or Adventure's like so many novels would try too full your head with exploits like you find in the hundred and one Arabian nights. Not here in Turquie! We are working on the defensives, of Bosphorus, for the Turc the biggest enemy that we have here are bad roads and the weather. It appears to me to be impossible for the Russians to attack the Turc's from the North maybe from the west but the North it’s safe, too hilly and no roads to move supplies and men over. The West has fortification that are older then time it's self from the time of Alexander the Great to Caesars in both Greek and Rome styles. From the time of the Great Persian Empires, and to the coming of Christ, these are the citadels that guard the Hellespont! Like a Grandee, sword that swings back and forth the door to the east is guarded north and south, and east and west. It would take a great fleet to sail up from the southwest to take Istanbul which I believe that the Anglais will do. I have with me this captured Russian cannons that sets on a section of a small town to the southeast of Dardanus in the Troad this is the section that I now watch over with my small troop of soldat's till I was called to Bosphorus, to go on a mission with Colonel Remi. The men that I command are all nizam-i-jedid, most are Persian in nationality! They were very impressed with me when I arrived, for they thought that I too was a Turc or a true believer which I am. We work find together because I pray with them five times a day. The Turc officer specks French, which is bon for me, that makes it easier to relate to the homme (men).
Colonel Remi, asked me is there anything that I needed to make the job easier, I told him that if I had a section of French Artillery from the 6/3 the first section that is, under Monsieur Pool we could put the Russian guns on the hills over looking the peninsula of Gallipoli that runs to the sea in the northwest. And have the two 4-pounders as an offensive arm. I told him that these homme were, excellent gunners former sailors trained by one of the best. They were sailors from 1801 till 04 and they learned there craft well from a first rate Corvair a Capitaine Martinez. They were the only ones that I knew who could get cannons up an impassable mountain such as the one to our northwest near the castles of Sedil Bahr and Kum Kaleh.
He told me that he had another place that has a mountain that needed to be fortified to the south near the city of Bosphorus. It seems very strange to me that all the attention was directed to the Southwest approaches and not towards the Russian approaches. Colonel Remi told me that he would have these homme here in a month, it seemed unbelievable to me that he would do this, it must be a very hard job or a very important pass that must be guarded, and he told me to use only my French soldat's to do this job also. I will see you tomorrow Monsieur off to my duties today we might be moving forward bon chance!

I was up early and after reading the story of the Prussi organization I was so impress. I feel that the GA is falling behind and that real world matters are pulling it down young garcons are being beat and I know that they see that we are not so Grand. But who am I ! Anyway I will tell my tale and do my duty till a change comes. Bon ju mon ami hope you are ready to hear my Adventure in the land of Muhammad! Unlike any other city that I have been in Bosphorus was the perfect Eastern city with its Greek and Turc styles and its old and new religions Christians and Muslims in the same busy city not European and not all Persian but a mix much like myself! I went on a tour of the city along with the Diplomatic Corps we saw the wonders of the east first hand and I could see L'a Emperors, Golden Fleece! If the Nile River is a Jewel (bijou) then Bosphorus is the carpet to it. And at last I saw the sexual wonders of the east mixed up in the Belly dancers and the harem girls that walk around the markets with their escorts from the Janissary. Truly a wonder to behold we were invited to a dinner along with the rest of the French Diplomatic staff that gave me a chance to wear my new uniform. When I'm not on duty I wear my Mameluke uniform. The Sultan gave a great ball in honor of the arrival of the General, General Horace Sebastiani

History Fact:
Napoleon, hoped to come to agreement with the Czar of Russia, he had instructed his ambassador to the Porte, General Horace Sebastiani, to encourage Sultain Selim III to tack an aggressively anti -Russian stand;

Mon ami let me tell ju of the Ball that the Sultan gave;
General Horace Sebastiani 1806 http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u503/DumasCliff
The ball was magnifque, with dancing harem girls and belly dancers and the food was so tasty, it would take me hours to describe the Grandeur of this, but let me say that it was one of the Anglais Ambassadors wives that drew my attention. Her name is Charlotte Daily, a tall large bone femme with a look in her eyes like peace; skin the color of a warm day in June lips like sweet cherries her voice as soft as the foam from the ocean. This Monsieur, was my Helen of Troy, I was so taken with her, as I approach her she asked me was I a Mameluke which I answered Oui, but accuse Madame, I would be any thing that she wished, for your wish is my command, I told her!
I was not the only one that noticed this most creaming femmi with so many other half naked dancing girls around that made your blood boil, a Russian officer also had his eyes on her I found out that he knew of her personally and I had to excuse myself for now but there will be other times that I will see this Helen of Troy! The Russian officer’s name is Comt'e Randy Vladimir March- ron-to-h-vich, of the Hussar Garde de Corps attached to the Russian diplomatic staff. He was a foot taller than I am and a man more in weight, but this beauty I felt was worth it much like Helen of Troy. I would steal her from both the Anglais and the Russian. If I had a Turc to go between them much like the Emperor I could divide and conquer them. Maybe I can use the adjutant of the Turc mission to send word to her he seems to favor me over the others, maybe because of my uniform. He follows me everywhere, I think he's a femme or estrange! Maybe if I talk to him then I can let him know that I am captivated by Madame Charlotte’s charm. I began to speak to him, he told me that he was not femme or estrange but that he comes from Maroc, and that he knows that I'm Moorish. His name should have told me something but my mind was on Madame Charlotte, his name is Mohammed Bey. I told him, oui, that my Mere is a true believer and oui we are Moorish but my Pere is French! He told me that there are many of us Moor's in service to the Sultan and that many speck French but most are Mamelukes from Algerie.
I told him that my Pere let’s us worship as we please my Mere was happy that I choose to worship with her to the east towards Mecca. He told me that when I put that Mameluke uniform on he then knew for sure that I had Moorish blood in me, he told me that in my regular uniform I look like a dark skin Blanc maybe Italian or Spanish. But he said that the uniform brought out my true person. This developed into a lasting relationship and a new ami in my life, he told me all about Maroc and the hills to the north touching Spain, the noir (black) sand near the sea the wide planes to the east and the desert to the south the mixture of the people from Noir to Blanc from Roman to Spanish from Turc to Hametic and Arab all in one nation that spans the west and northwest coast of Africa. Much like Bosphorus, Maroc it is the door to Africa and the Mediterranean Sea more like the Front door and Bosphorus the side door.

Moi story Continues; Now what I truly needed was a plan, how to get Monsieur Daily to call Monsieur Randy out in a dual. Much like L'e Emperor! The world is too small for four European Empires! Madame Charlotte is too much of a femme (woman); I felt, for Monsieur Daily and Monsieur Randy, them l’imbeciles to mess up! I knew that if Monsieur Daily knew that his wife was being pursued by that big Russie, he as a diplomat could not call him out but if he had a emissary he could, maybe I could get Monsieur Mohammed to let the Anglais know in a subtle way that he knew of a sword master that would service as his emissary. I asked Monsieur Mohammed to do that for me but I must have thought that he was a European because it was against his belief, so instead of that I asked him to teach me how to use a Saracen sword that is a very light weight and very sharp sword that Muslims carry. He agreed to teach me but at the same time he preached to me that what I was after was not the way of a true believer. I still needed someone to act as a go between for me! What I did was approach the Anglais Diplomat and I explain to him, using a ruse that I as a true believer felt that it was my duty to tell him of the reproach against his home by the Russie Officer. And that I would be his emissary if he so needed one. At the time I was wearing my Mameluke uniform and I play that part bon. I knew that this would be an insult to my fellow Moor’s so I will never let them know of my carnal nature. Monsieur Mohammed trained me in my off duty hours as I waited for the arrival of my mates. For my lust was burning for this Madame like never before. I was glade that I spent a year under Monsieur at Luneville in 03, because it took me no time at all to understand the principle's of the Saracen sword. I was ready after a month of hard training to meet this Russie, the innovation was sent by a special courier to the Russie embassy, somehow the French embassy got wind of the dual and I was brought before the deputy of General Sebastiani, he told me that they did not approve of a French Officer fighting in behalf of an Anglais, but they had it changed around that the Russie insulted a Muslim in service to L'a Emperor and the honor of the Emperor was not the question but the honor of Mohammed was, it was termed a holy thing sent to the Sultain himself .Much like what General Sebastiani was sent here to do, a Muslim against the Russian Empire to weaken them, I would be one of the instruments use to show the Sultain that the Russians are not their ami!
