Col Sharp says "Aim high and kill the bugger, shot at officers only and with the butt of your musket beat the poor devil's horse too death that will make the horse throw the rider" And if that won't get him call for Cheval de Artillery" that will surely get them! :P :P

I agree with the effectiveness of the Artillery d' Cheval in dismounting approaching assailants. I do, however, have a somewhat different philosophy regarding the horse. I will never fire upon the poor animal myself. It is cruel to begin with and a single bullet is not guaranteed to immediately bring down such a large beast. I specifically reserve my shot for the rider, for he is the main perpetrator of the intended offense. I find that the horse is easily sidestepped once his lifeless rider topples to the ground.

One other caution regarding the perpetrator of the charge. Should you see that the red coated rider appears to be covered in mud, or discern that he actually wields a salad fork rather than a sword, you should immediately implement the plan outlined above pertaining to the approach of a Kings Dragoon Guardsman as your odds of survival are equally as grim.

I guess no one could answerer my trivia question so here's another who said this"The [French] cavalry swaggered, the martial clanging of its scabbards ...
Artillerymen strode with aloof pride - was not Emperor himself also a gunner ?
But it was the sweaty soldats d'infanterie, the gravel-agitating,
beetle-crushing infantry who truly carried the French Empire
on their burdened shoulders and bayonets."

Monsieur:

You obviously have never met my horse. Raise your musket at him and you will quickly find a hoof planted in your face, or mouth, or worse. Trying to shoot him from a distance is futile as he has an uncanny, neh (pun intended), a magical ability to avoid all matter of metallic object thrown in his direction. He has ignored such flying debris for years and has often made the perpetrator sorry for having ever thrown a shot in his direction.
