The interesting idea, Euer Hochgeboren! " A marshal's baton in every knapsack."

Gentlemen, let me share with you my vision of the subject. As short as possible.

Main ideas of DT: the maximal involving of newcomers and junior officers in game and club activities;
the good and logical cause of unity with them for our experienced veterans;
the good reason for the senior divisional officers to display their commanding abilities
and to learn their subordinate officers;
expansion of a "round table" of friends in our club.
Mechanics: DTs do not supposed to be tournaments in classical forms of our club; any tournament has its "start" and "finish", DTs have to be permanent actions.
Brigade/Divisional teams supposed to have one Staff-officer and the rest (2-3-4)- Field-officers;
if the Brigade/Division have no a Staff-officer, they may ask him from their Corps Staff.

Something came up and I was unable to play but a solution was found. I sent my Army orders in plain and simple, not a picture were to move but general orders such as Army wing south move or attacks to so and so village ,place Artillery at hex 120.16 simple as that till I return in two weeks. Games goes on and no problem. I was in games were we had to just stop playing because one player didn't let the others know were he wanted to move his unites win or loses or just never showed up. Respect the people you play with and there should be no problems. Yes there are people who are like Gen Sickles during the American Civil war or Maj.Gen Ponsonby at Waterloo that just life not all of us are Napoleon.

Gentlemen,
I'm proud to report: 2nd Grenadier Div., 27th Infantry Div. and 2nd Cavalry Corps of the Russian Army
are in a process of forming their combat teams now.

Two more points of my vision of tournaments.
A division/brigade combat team may challenge a team of any army (Prussians vs Russians, Austrians vs Anglo-Allied, French vs Bavarians etc.).
The best field of actions for DTs are Large scenarios where each combat team officer would command a corps or two.

Pretty long time I studied sources and worked on a custom scenario for Campaign Eckmuhl in One Game. It is my favorite.
Now it is ready. There are a lot of new features.
New Scenario: very historical disposition of rival forces on the start of fighting, and terms of their appearance on map (the main source: The West Point Academy's A Military History and Atlas of the Nap.Wars); up-to-date numbers of strengths (the main source is J.Arnold. Crisis on the Danube).
Graphics: new Unit Icons with all regimental and even some battalion distinctions of all participants; new edition of Leaders.bmp file with new historical images.
New OOB: figures of all Colonels, Majors, some CdBs and CdSs (with their real names), Regimental Eagles and standards, Headquarters and Staffs till Division level with figures of AdCs for Command-Control functions; quality differentiations for Btns and Sqns of a regiment depending on the correlation Loses/Replacement of a unit after the previous campaign and on the national composition of units; the French Artillery quality vantage etc.
New PDT: should let have realistic levels of casualties, fatigue and moral, and real hex capacity that considering Inf., Cav. and Art. march and battle orders of different armies; the French Command-Control quality vantage; much heavier impact of cavalry charge etc, etc.

So, gentlemen, the field of Glory is ready. Where are combat teams of adventurers?

Sounds like some great edits to the games! :mrgreen:

Prussia is in the midst of forming a team. Should have enough guys for at least one team so far.

Gentlemen officers,

I would like we think about together.
I can send the scenario to anybody at any time - I understand your curiosity
but if we're going to use it in DTs, we take a chance to lose all elements of the "fog of war" in that case,
and as a result - losing the drama of real historical situation - the most interesting aspect of the Historical way of playing on my opinion.
I like the method of present SON Tournament: opponents get OOB, PDT etc. files, agreement on Optional and House Rules, and only then the First Side gets an open scenario/bte. file with the "fog of war" from a mediator.
What do you think about, gentlemen? Can we go this way?

Vladimir,

That would be the best way to play.

I would recommend you make a 12 turn scenario with the new OOB, PDT files and send to everybody. Give them a month to play around with it so they can familiarize themselves with a new system. This would be fair. Otherwise you're asking people to play a game system that you are quite comfortable with, and that they have never seen. That would not be fair.

H&R needs to come up with a dozen short (12-24 turn) training game scenarios that pit a division on division, or corps up on corps so players can see what changes y'all made, and see how your philiosophy is melded with the game engine.

Then they can be comfortable playing large historical based battles. Time is precious to us all, and when exploring a new system, i.e. new pdt, oob, scn design philosophy it is better to experience and learn it in training. Afterall, Napoleon set up the camps at Boulogne to train his army before he sent them to war. So why shouldn't we?

Al, this is not H&R. This is HPS system.
OOB, PDT etc. have the same designs but with some alterations which let us to approach a little bit closer to all those things that we call "realism" and "historicity" (as much as it possible in general on our "battlefields").
I do not understand your anxieties, gentlemen! :lol:
It's just custom version of HPS' Eckmuhl Campaign in One Scenario.
I can send it to you, Al, if you wish.

Prince Repnin, salute!

I believe we are headed in a great direction regarding the idea of pitting Div's, Brig's, and Combat Teams against one another.

However, the Eckmuhl in One Battle scenario is a 500+ turn monster, and will require a long term commitment from all involved.

This very well could take place, I for one am very interested in it, and have been 'prepping' for just such an undertaking, but I feel we should also strive to design some Challenges for the combat teams put forward by all the armies to battle one another in shorter scenarios - the 40 - 60 turn range.

Eckmuhl in One Battle would be a special case, standing by itself as it were.

I feel the conversations taking place here are excellent in that they feature many officers from many armies, all eagerly looking to participate in more organized battle tournaments, involving MP format.

Thank you to one and all for your contributions, and may the ideas continue to flow, and the fine tavern beverages as well.
Helga, more wine here, please.

Regards,

Al, i couldn't have made our case better. those of us not familiar with the changes need to see how they effect things. I think that asking for one playable game to acquaint ourselves with the changes isn't asking too much. I also agree on length, we need a bunch of shorter fairly balanced scenarios for the tournament. correct me if i am wrong but aren't tournament scenarios usually looked over by high ranking officers not involved in the tournament to make sure the scenarios are balanced? Vladimir i would love to see your Eckmuhl scenario, please send it to me.
Todd i agree that this is a good conversation that needs to be kept up.

Vladimir,

Sorry I thought it was an upcoming H&R scenario, still if changes have been made to the pdt file it's better to let players get used to it so there isn't a hue and cry of "foul" during a long game.

I would like to see all the HPS games settle on one standard pdt file, so that we can get a good feel on how the armies changed throughout the era, btw. ;-)

Ok, gentlemen, I have much smaller scenarios for NRC (with the same features as of EckmuhlCampaign in One) :

Vilkomir - June 28th, 1812 - 65 turns
Saltanovka - July 23rd, 1812 - 58 turns
Ostrovno - July 26th, 1812 - 48 turns
Yakubovo-Klyastitsy - July 30th-31st, 1812 - 120 turns
Pruzhany - August 8th, 1812 - 60 turns

And still in work process:

WhatIf.Berezina - October 20th-23rd - 268 turns
Fridrichstadt-Dallenkirchen - November 11th, 1812 - 56 turns
Volkovysk - November 16th, 1812 - 65 turns

So, we have what to do. Let's play. Enough talking.

Two more points of my vision of DTs:
DTs need some official "signboard" in NWC, like the other tournaments have.
They need some statistical data. It is not the usual MP games.

I can't understand why you are using only 1812 and not 05, 06 ,and 09,15 . And why Al Amos has so much input in this . Does he have a team and do you think this is fair to the French team????
