If this were a Seven Years War club, then having four or five dozen countries represented would be historically sustainable. During our time period, minor countries should be represented as a part of thier Major Ally's army, such as the Spanish Bde within the Anglo-Allied Army.

Armies within this club should represent those historical countries which actively participated during the Napoleonic Wars within the primary theatre concerned, i.e. Europe. During this time period there were many actions fought throughout the world due to opportunities created because of the European countries preoccupation with affairs in Europe, or resulting from Europeans taking advantage of each other in acquiring each other's colonial territories. While all these actions may have had long lasting historical consequences, at the time they were viewed as mere sideshows, hardly worth the resources required to undertake them. So let's keep this Euro-centric, please.

As to how the armies are run, let the membership of each army decide. If you disagree, change armies. If there is a personality issue, we're all men, find neutral third-parties and hammer out an agreeable (to both parties), workable solution.

Mark,

It may be time to lock this thread. Perhaps, clear the tavern, and prohibit drinking for a day or two. It seems some may be getting a bit fiesty, and needlessly personal. :?

Let's try to keep this civil, gentlemen. Colin is correct in that we should be focusing on having fun. There is no point in tearing into each other with personal attacks. There are as many different opinions in this club as there are members. Please be respectful in your comments. Remember, we are all fellow gamers here, not enemies as our different uniforms might indicate.

I really do not view this club as a bunch of warring factions, although I see it operate in that manner quite frequently. I view us all as being brother gamers with a common interest. Let's try to get along if at all possible here. If this thread deteriorates further, I will lock it. I really hope that I will not have to do that.

I have been told that to get a general rank in the French Army you need to be in a commanding position. That's my understanding on the why Cliff hasn't been promoted higher than Colonel.

I was told once to get a job I needed a car, no car no job! Well that sounds the same to me.

This has nothing to do with the French Armee and it’s not an argument but a request to be in a national Army that is not Represent at all in this club. As far a Haiti is concern the President knows nothing about me or my family background. Here’s a history lesson for you Mark when the United States wouldn’t let Mulattos from Haiti into Louisiana they ended up in Maryland the Port of Baltimore. The man who built the church were the underground rail road was located on Orchard Street was Haitian. The Homeless shelter for Mulattos from Haiti was on St Mary Street. My family has always lived on 800 and 700 block of Druidhill Ave. We were born free and one of the oldest Mulatto family in Baltimore. Now I doubt that Mark is a native Hanoverian but all that a side. It’s not a way of getting around promotion but a way of including a new part to the club were others might feel comfortable playing these games. Never was it a way of setting a president in the club. But we had no problem after ten years without a Spanish or Swedish army. And I think it’s great that we have them. To not be Allied or French would not be hard it would only mean that who ever plays me gets points for their time. If not 1 point then ½ points I would not care but to be the first to Represent a colored nation would be a president in this club it might open the door to Turkey.
If this is boring why read it? A request has been made why argue about it just say NAY or Oui!

Cliff,

You can't create a third side of the Club. The force would need to be under one of the two sides. Creation of a third side would first off need major Club rules revision, with Cabinet discussion, vote and then a Club wide vote.

Spain, Portugal and Sweden were only added after long discussion and after all were placed under a current overall army.

I do however understand your pride in your heritage. :D

Cliff,

On a serious note. General Dumas was a very fascinating French general. Why not just start a webpage about your nome d'guerre (sorry for spelling)? You can have part of it tracking your efforts here at the club (OBD), and parts covering the general himself.

That would be an excellent way to honor your heritage, and a way to enrich the club at the same time.

Cliff, we all have heritage. That is an inescapable fact of procreation. Regardless, you and I were both born in the United States of America. We are both American citizens from birth. In my mind, we are equal. When you add any adjective in front of the word "American", you change the equation. If I am an "Irish American" and you are a "Haitian American", then we have created a division between us. I do not agree with such a division. It is to be expected that Americans will most likely come from different heritages and cultures. That is the very nature of our country.

I do not suggest that you should forget your heritage, only that you should live in the present, and not the past. I understand that you may want to live in the past within the context of the fictitional armies and commissions of this club. Just don't confuse that with reality. We are Americans, you and I, that makes us equal in status to each other and no better, or worse, than anyone else in any other country of our world. For all of our differences, every single officer in this club is a Napoleonic Gamer, so we are bound by a brotherhood of common interest. Nothing else should really matter within the context of this club.

A friend will tell that your breath smells and he will hold nothing about it. A enemy will never tell you that your breath smells. How did this thing about America or Americans start only if you in your own mind have trouble with what is going on in the present that is why we live here in the past. An in the past the only one that I ever cross swords with on this form was Bill and he to me was a kind of friend you could tell that your breath smelled and he could tell you that your teeth were green and the next day we be at it. On the battle field or on the form that is our nature. I have no hard feeling any way if this club never has a Haitian national Armee. I just thought it would have more people join with the comfort of knowing that yes you did play a part in shaping this world that we lived and fought also. I will still be a Col no matter what if Haiti is a national team or what the French command thinks of me and why they think of me in that way is unknown who in the French Armee in this form outside of Bill did I ever fight with no one. And oui I still love him as a friend.
Thanks for the OUI and think about the NAY one year you will see that the times are changing.

Sssssshhh! I have a reputation to uphold.

Actually, I had had two shots of Jagermeister in my life. The first was handed to me by a friend when I did not know what it was. I cannot remember the reason for the second, but I would lay odds there was a woman involved somewhere!

There needs to be more enthusiasm coming from the cabinet and more involvement in day to day postings. Besides Mark, everyone else is MIA.

Not MIA. Moderating, which means not taking sides. Making informed decisions which are discussed in Cabinet in a polite and sensible manner. That I don't want to be involved in inane banter daily or flaming folks is my personal choice.

You have no idea who I am

Indeed
