1600 General de Cheval Dumas , is now without his trusted mount and his old war horse from days gone by is no use to him here. He walks to the sound of the guns to far to join the fight. Hoping that he can buy and train a new mount before the battle is over.

Still General de Cheval Dumas is trying to buy a horse so that he can get back in the game but time is running out as ; June 16th, 1815
16:00 hrs: All along the wide spread battle front, the clash of arms resounds, as cavalry, infantry, and artillery on both sides fire, charge, and advance with the bayonet.

Below Bussy Windmill, the bodies are piling up, and in the village of Ligny, flames begin to lick at the sky.
Tongrinne village is the scene of growing carnage, as also the action is heating up around Villere's in the east.

16:15 hrs: The battle map remains a slowly boiling cauldron, stirred by the gods of war.
From one end of the battle lines to the other artillery fire, infantry and cavalry maneuver across the fields, through the villages lit by flames, and upon the slopes of the hills.

Many are the deeds of valor upon both sides of this conflict.
And both sides summon their strength for the continuation of the contest of arms.

Most noble of foes, how like you this dance of strategy and tactics?

June 16th, 1815 - 16:15hrs

Under the heat of a blazing June sun, both armies seem to pause for breath in the stifling cauldron of battle. Tired troops on both sides can be seen reforming and snatching gulps of water to ease their cracked throats.

The Duke of Wellington riding at the head of an allied relief column urges his men forward “Forward lads, for the honour of our nation is at hand, forward for King and country”

16:30 hrs: While it is suddenly quiet for the moment in the west at Ligny as the Allied forces pull back to re-order their ranks, the action is picking up in the center and in the east.

Col Jacquinot at the head of the lancers of the 5th Cavalry Division have charged and broken through the battle line northeast of Villere.

Seeing the charge of the bold squadrons inspired the fantassins to greater efforts, and the bayonets gleam brightly hued.

The objective hex at 78/51 changes hands yet again as the French throw out the Prussian skirmishers that had bravely tried to defend it.

Flames begin to spread amidst this hamlet and Tongrinne itself.

16:30 hrs: The 5th Belgian light Dragoons regiment counters Col Jacquinot and turns his advances. The entire Prussian line is engaged with the French, dealing out death and destruction in equal measures.

To the west the Anglo allies on seeing their CiC enter the field are resurgent and prepare themselves for new heroic feats of glory against their foe Napoleon. Today a new chapter in history will be written.

16:45 hrs: With renewed zeal the French fantassins advance up the slopes of Tongrinne Hill and north of Villere.
The battle cauldron is reaching a boil as both sides launch assault after counter-assault!

The cries of men are lost amongst the cacophony of cannon and musket that roars across the battlefield.

More of Wellington’s army reaches the field, fresh and eager to strike a blow for freedom and parity in Europe.

17:00 hrs: The Anglo-Allied forces are observed moving away from Ligny in a long column on the road leading to Sombreffe.

With the village now billowing flames into the sky, the hand to hand combat continues in Tongrinne.

Across the hillside in the direction of Villere the French cavalry charge forward driving their way through the opposing battle line.

The fantassins are inspired to redouble their efforts and advance to melee with much elan.

As couriers bring the latest tidings from Marechal's Ney and Grouchy, L'Empereur directs his staff to mark changes upon the battle map.

The cauldron of Tongrinne has claimed the lives of many brave men, attack and counter attack are traded along the entire Prussian front

With Wellington in the Field the Anglo allies are united under his command and start to dance to his tune.

Salute!

June 16th, 1815
11:15 hrs: In the shadows on the field of battle a Grenadier battalion of the Veille Garde is drawn up in ordered rank of columns.

Among them was their drummer boy, the ill-begotten spring of a sergeant who lost his life in earlier campaign against the foes of L'Empereur.

The grumblers of the company had welcomed the lad as their own, and now he beats the pas de charge whenever Le Tondu sends them into the fray.

As the earth shakes as though giants wrestle beneath their feet, and the air blows hot with the roar and fire of the "beautiful daughters", one of the grizzled veterans sees the drummer boy starting with ashen face.

"Be brave boy," the warrior tells him, "this is but the sound and fury of the titans when they bowl..."

The lad peers at him, gripping tight his drum and sticks.

"And if this is what they sound like when they bowl... imagine what they will be like when they honor your ascent to the ranks of the Immortals!"

Regards,
