The Tavern door opens .........and in strolls a cloaked non descript chap, disheveled dark hair (are those hints of grey on the edges or just the light?), bare headed and unshaven. The cloak is French in cut, well worn and once of good quality, the boots are cavalry, English leather, muddy, but still of obvious quality.

He reaches the bar and gestures for the barman....speaks in broken French with a strange accent.

The chap turns to face the bar, opens his cloak and exposes a worn and faded French Dragoon officers jacket. The sword long and straight, belt well kept and scarred.

The Barman takes a deep breath and announces to the room -

"Gentlemen and spaniards. The Bar is open! Compliments of Colonel Mike Ellwood, who has returned to L'Emperor's service!

Colonel Mike Ellwood raises his voice -

"Gentlemen, after an unexpected departure and long absence in theatres south, I have returned to the European fronts. Give me a month to get back up to speed with the latest developments and I will be spoiling for a fight or two! Especially on these new battlefields that have appeared since my absence! For the moment the drinks are on me! Barman! Champagne for all French Officers! To all , Salute!

Long live L'Emperor!" :)

Well, far be it from me to pass up the opportunity to deplete a French officer's life savings.

Welcome back, Mike.

""Gentlemen and spaniards."

It is refreshing to see that there are minions out there that recognize that Spaniards are a step above gentlemen. Refreshing indeed.

Accepting his glass of bubbly from Helga, L'Chevalier turns to the Capitao and says...
By your interpretation sir, does the saying: "Ladies and Gentlemen" mean that the latter are a step above the former?

I think you, even a Spaniard will agree that this cannot be the case... and therefore...

Regards,

No what our Spanish hero means is he's only a step above ladies as that is how the Spanish fight is it not.

Maybe Sir would prefer a handbag to a musket,

As for that drink mine will be a beer as champagne bubbles get up my nose, or is that the scent of the Spanish perfume wafting from our Spanish guest.

Anyway a toast.

May France bring liberty and freedom from the tyrants. :D

Oh it's so good to be back.

Care to join me gentlemen as I'm celebrating my promotion.

Oh my, we seem to have some misunderstanding here. That can happen when so many languages are spoken in such a small room where a variety of spirits, both robust and most satisfying; and the French stuff, are flowing freely (I do get sticker shock when Helga brings the tab).

When it involves ladies and gentlemen, typically the boys from the Peninsula are "above", but that is more due to being pressed for time as the French keep retreating and we must move camp frequently. Otherwise, "Ladies above" is a welcome respite. Just wanted to clear that up, muchachos.
