The raucous laughter of the drunken French could be heard for miles. The Hanoverian Lieutenant nearly had to cover his ears as he entered the Rhine Tavern. The room was certainly crowded tonight, predominantly by Imperial Guardsmen it seemed. The young officer wrinkled his nose at the stench of so much perfume. He doubted whether the brothels in Paris could even compete with the odiferous habits of “Napoleon’s Finest’.

Making his way towards the Hanoverian table, he noticed that his Commanding Officer had arrived ahead of him. “Ah, 2nd Lieutenant Friedman”, said the Hanoverian Guardsman as the young officer drew near. “Please join me for a toast.”

“Certainly, sir”, said the young Lieutenant as he pulled up a chair. “But if I may ask, what exactly are we toasting tonight.”

“Brave men, Herr Wolf”, replied the Hanoverian General. “To the French Guard, may they always have the courage to face we Hanoverians on the field, no matter how many times we defeat them!”

The young Lieutenant grinned, “I’ll drink to that, sir.”

“And to the young officers who continue to make their Commanders proud”, continued Der Jager as he raised his glass to the young man seated beside him. “Congratulations on your promotion, Lieutenant, and for that new Waterloo Medal that you now wear on your coat. Cheers, Herr Wolf! Your drinks are all on me tonight.”

Thank you gentlemen!

I would stay to celebrate, but I have some Frenchmen on the run. Back to the battle.

I could not agree more. A sincere salute to FM Moss for all that he does to mold the Anglo-Allied Army officers into formidable 'soldiers'. :D :P
