Are a man right out of Siborne's heart! Following the English tradition of sledging the allied forces as low quality.
Waterloo did not happen much like that gentlemen's account. Even though Marshal Moss and all Englishmen try to maintain the illusion

Actually, I think Andy was weighing in on the other side of that argument, Colin. I believe he was complaining of the disparity rather than endorsing it as being correct.

Haven't recent court cases about scouts and "scout masters" showing inappropriate "guidance" made scouts now very unpopular and politically incorrect?

I remember I was kicked out of scouts so I think its only the British who persist in those sorts of practices!

Many games have units that brake down to very small units all they need to be is up graded to Videttes . In the 1806 game esp and the Prussian Kav 1815.

 Certainly not! That is the province of priests and those colonials who have no access to caprines. Lord Mountbatten forged real men over here who were proud to get slaughtered in muddy trenches. I for one never even made it to scouts after announcing my love for freshwater algae.

Oh buggar [sic] your [sic again]probably right. Sorry Andy thought I had a chance to sledge the English

 Certainly not! See above. Dolce et decorum est and all that. And besides, Hanoverians are not British. Queen mum was a reptoid.

Well, so much for sledging the English.

So if Hanoverians are not English, what are we? It is an age old question I am sure.

English, Hanoverian, German, Austrian, Russian....hmmmm. Divine Right, arranged marriages and nepotism...Same story different names me thinks! Republicanism and democracy saved the day

Seriously I do think the current system is even handed and its up to the player how he uses his forces both strategically and tactically. Videttes were used close to main forces whilst wider ranging scouting was conducted by squadrons, regiments and brigades so I think the game system is fine for what was done. And anyway how many times were forces not discovered until quite close to the enemy. We have telepathic communications to our forces now, we should not make it even easier to observe every hex possible :!:

General Robert E Lee one of this countries great leaders said " Without Cav in the front scouting out the land the Army is blind without it's eyes and ears, roaming around ready for defeat ".

Sorry, but I inadvertently snapped to attention as a tear formed in the corner of my eye at the mention of the name of "the finest man whatever sucked a breath of air"! (Salute)

Another fine officer, Rommel, stated "Time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted!"

However all have been defeated for one reason or another. Even Wellington was defeated by his own people
