Has anyone any thoughts on this scenario?

I was looking through the scenario's trying to find one to play and came across it.

This reminds me of my minature battle days (although far more troops!), where we had an allotment of points and each unit type had a point value.

A nice even game, actually I was looking for one where the French were at a disadvantage  But this seemed like a good idea, however I have often had bad experiences with good ideas

Regards to one and all.

This scenario is designed to have equal situation on each side. Map is the same for both sides in terms of where each side starts the terrain is the same as the other. The forces are pretty equal as is the objectives. It is designed for balanced tournament play.....

I worked that bit out!

Does it difer from the other scenario's where presumably the VP's reflect a players game?

Not quite following the question, do you mean the objective points or the VP's for casualties? As I think it is standard VP's for casualties and it is designed to be a meeting engagement where either side needs to take objectives from the other side to win....it has been a while since I looked at the scenario & I don't have it in front of me.

Tony, the Designer made every attempt to balance the scenario, but he did not balance the command ratings and radii. The advantage would still lie with the French as their leaders have higher ratings and can exert their influence on their units over a greater distance. This means that the French Army will Rally, and most importantly Reorder much better than the Russian Army. I did not review the PDT file, but would assume that the French infantry firepower is greater per man than the Russian.

All in all, this is probably about as balanced as it gets, but it is not exactly balanced in all aspects as claimed. I would think that the better player would determine the outcome. I would suggest you ask Mike Peccolo, Tom Phillips, Bill Reaves, and Al Kling thier opinion as they have recently played this scenario in a Brigade Challenge.

I don't think there is a scenario that is ever truly balanced.....you have to weigh the pluses and minuses of each and decide for yourself what you're willing to tolerate for each thing. Not everyday will be perfect of the battlefield, but hey, even the Iron Duke had setbacks. The important thing is to engage and have
fun! :)

Winning or Loosing a battle, Designing Web Pages, Updating medals, Awards and Promotions, etc.. I am having fun and if not it will be time to go back to being a crabby old man!

Have Fun and Battle On....

By the way; Soldiers of the Napoleonic Era do not play games, they engage the enemy in battle,
so when I playing Maréchal Berthier, I prefer to call my engagements battles not games!

Personally I'm not out to seek "balanced" scenarios, I'm out to seek historical correct scenarios.
I once played a scenario called "Götterdämmerung" that depicts the last 6 months of the Third Reich and although most of the time I got my butt kicked while the enemy was closing in on Berlin it was damned fun to make him pay for every inch that he gained.
I don't think different in this game series, as long as history is depicted I don't mind playing an unbalanced scenario.

I'm not too fussy myself either. I really like the different & unique. A lot of scenarios not normally played. I like to encourage folks to do so too.... :)

Actually Tony....I looked at the OOB. Command ratings are the same in each army in terms of a, b, & c et al. Command range the French BC's & DC's only enjoy a two hex advantage over the Russians....I think it is worth the fun imo.... :) If you want to give it a go, we can....I'd even edit the OOB to put in Kutuzov & Bagration at the army top for you as well....your choice.... :)
