ImageAfter my review of the forward Kav Command, I was posted in the IV Korps under GdK Prinz Wilhelm as a General Aid.My staff consisted of my Brig 1st regt was commanded by ImageOberstLt Sohr my 2nd Regt wasImage OberstLt Marwitz, my 3rd was commanded byImage Oberst Schwerin and my 4th commanded by former French General of the Wurttemberg'sImageOberst Wilhelm Litz, special attaché Image GeneralMajor Frangnemont. It was not easy for these Nobles of Prussia to be commanded by a former French General and not easy also to be commanded by a son of a former slave. But they would just have to get use to it.

ImageThe command arrived at Waterloo village; the first unit to arrive was the Neumark Lw Kav. That unit was very gaiety with an air of festivity. The local populous were also teeming with high anticipation. General Major Von Sydow led the unit in to the joy of the town’s people. The local Noblesse want to give the Prince a ball and the rumor was to see the Noir General in person. I was not surprise to be the show for my patron.

Once we arrived at Chateau de Goumont , the party of the Prussian Prince was met with prominent welcome. I notice as we walked in a Russian officer who I knew from years ago. I made excuse to the prince and hurried over to him. “Bon Jur Monsieur (salute) I said”.
He replied with a look of discuss on his face” Had I had the pleasure Monsieur”.
“But a cause Monsieur let me bring you to remembrance.
Some years back you said it was impossible for a man such as I to hold any position, well Monsieur look at me now a Prinz and a Prussia General, in the Armee loved by the Royal family “I said.
“Do tell he replied”!
I left him with a mad look on his face I was hoping that I got in his head.
While I was standing near the Prince, a Noble Madame ask me was I an African Prince!
No Madame I am a Prussian Prinz, and the son of Count de La Pailleterie (my father forbid me from using the family name when I first entered the Armee for my own safety).
