I agree with Todd. The burden of responsibility for remaining an active member should be on the individual members. I have been on the executives of a number of organizations and clubs and chasing members who have decided, for whatever reason to become inactive is largely a waste of time. Remember, the main purpose of our club is to facilitate gaming during the Napoleonic period. Those members who wish to continue to enjoy that experience will respond to muster calls or request leaves of absence.
Salute!
As for trying to make or maintain contact with officers, as both a Chef d'Etat-Major and Corps commander I have sent multiple emails out to the officers in my units, not just at muster time, but for other reasons as well.
Members of a club which they voluntarily joined have a responsibility (as I see it) to maintain contact with the club.

If a member has real life issues that require him taking a break from gaming -
or otherwise be absent from general club interaction, it simply takes an email explaining in the smallest amount of detail to someone in the club that you need a leave of absence.

If you are up front saying going to be gone for a year - well maybe you will lose Regt assignment, but you could surely maintain your rank; if you are up front about being gone for several months, say through one muster - I'm sure it is no big deal - because you communicated!

In no way what so ever do I see it as the responsibility of the club to chase or track down erstwhile members - the burden of membership is on the members.
Nothing more and nothing less.

Regards,
Well put. :D

Well, it looks like it is time to vote.

Thanks to all of the members who posted in this thread to express their perspectives and opinions. Please take what has been said here into consideration as you cast your votes, but do not lose sight of the bigger picture. The basic concept of the Revised Club Rules on which you will now vote is to provide our club with a viable means to ensure that:

• Army Webpages are always kept up to date
• Army members are always held accountable for being “Active” in accordance with the Club Rules
• Army leaders are held accountable to the Cabinet for the their performance
• Cabinet members are held accountable to the Membership for their performance
• No individual member can be singled out and persecuted by any individual leader of our club
• Every member will have the right of due process to present their grievances to the Cabinet
• The Cabinet has the authority to settle all grievances by its impartial, majority vote.

I believe that these rules will go a long way to provide a club structure that has the necessary redundancy to ensure that it is always well operated, that its leadership is directly accountable for their actions, and in which every individual member will always receive fair and just treatment.

Whatever your perspective, it is my hope that you will exercise your right to vote on this very important issue for the future of our club.

I am going to lock this thread now so that we can end this discussion period and move into the voting stage. Thanks once again for your participation. Instructions for voting will follow in a bit.
