I didn't realize you guys restricted images in posts too!! It should be just signatures..... :frenchvive1:

How do you expect us to use and folks to see graphics we use in our posts..... :frenchcharge: :frenchshock: which is what helps create the uniqueness of each force.

You may wish to change the image in your graphic signature. i am not sure that it is appropriate for a French Officer's signature to be featuring two Russian Infantrymen.

Trying a picture in a post

Image

I tried a bigger picture... And I got that message

Your images may only be up to 300 pixels high.
Your images may only be up to 200 pixels wide.

that's not good. Would it be possible to have no restriction for picture in post as we used to have?

We have a thread about the avatars in the French tavern were Pierre is also trying to find the right size, I guess it's the same problem here he's trying to save bandwith.
But I still don't know if it's a problem to use an external hoster, isn't any picture only loaded from that hoster and so it should not use any bandwidth from the forum?

But when I use images in my posts they are hosted on the server, as it maintains continuity after someone departs, as if it is hosted on server it never disappears, unlike it being hosted via another server, somewhere else. Same goes for email images too.

How bad is the bandwidth problem Pierre??

All three Clubs (us, the ACWGC & the CCC) now have significant amounts of their club websites on the server. I'll see if I can make changes at the CCC, as that might be eating up some bandwidth with some of the things I do there.

But this problem won't go away as we all start to centralized on the server.

Can you buy more bandwidth Pierre??

Also remember, size of image isn't what chews the bandwidth up, it is size of file......

I had hoped for some AARs in the future and there the screenshots are also usually big and many are used, so even if Clifton is currently really the only regular user of big images I doubt that it will stay so.

FWIW SDC has unlimited bandwidth (the size of the site is limited though -at least with the hosting plan I use) .... I think it is something stupidly big like 150 GB.

I don't think PHPBB allows restriction by file size though (so I think you get stuck with using dimensions.). I wonder how height works with slicing -I know width works.

Edited -turns out it looks like even the size limit might have been removed (it looks like I am on an old plan that they retired, so I need to check that out.).

I have to probably do a better signature as I am not really interested in going against the spirit of the limitations.

I just got rid of my big signature images. Personally, understated suits me fine, but each to their own...

I think all the big signature images make some threads almost unreadable. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I would be all for lifting the image limitations in posts (mainly for anyone that wants to post a AAR) and getting rid of all images in signatures.

If there are going to be signature images, I would suggest limiting the height drastically. Make them more like a long thin banner ad. It makes the forum look better, in my opinion.

I hate when only one post at a time fits on my screen because of the giant signatures.

Like I said, I might be in the minority here.

I am sure Gentlemen that we will come to an agreement as to what is acceptable. The limit for Avatars is good now. Manipulation of the restriction is not.

As far as post images I will make them bigger. Any need to post images for games etc are good. Putting in a huge picture for nothing is not, can anyone spell Cliff. I consider that an abuse of privilege. Putting any images on the post is a privilege. If it is not abused then it is not a problem. I will look at the post restrictions the image presented in the example by David is not right. Currently 600 by 400. Please try it.
