I added a new research helper to our team this week: Nicolas Lacroux. At my request he looked up the unit history of the 7th bis Husards. As I suspected the "7th Hussars" in Campaign Marengo are actually the 7th bis Hussars.
The 7th Hussars served in Germany during 1796 and at the time the 7th bis Hussars were fighting in N.Italy, the 7th Hussars were fighting along the Danube at battles like Neresheim.
I just updated the OBs in Campaign Marengo where the 7th bis Hussars are present. They would include the large campaign OB for the first segment of the Mantua relief operation, both Castiglione OBs and Caldiero.
I will have to check the other 1796 OBs. If they were at Caldiero then it stands to reason they also should at least be in the campaign OB for that segment of the 1796 campaign (Arcole, etc).
This regiment was in Egypt for the period 1798-1801 and did not participate at the Battle of Marengo or in any of the 1800 Northern Italian campaign.
