Feel free to toast or roast your former opponent, cheer for the home team or comment on the ongoing game (or the 1st round).

As always, please remember - no wagering! [wink, wink]

The bar is open!

High up in the luxury section, among His Majesty's officers and their ladies, the delicate tinkle of wine glasses, jewelry, and quiet chit chat are in sharp contrast to the raucous din below. Even Bartholemew has his own red velvet seat and is surveying the crowd below as they jockey for good seats and bar stools. Suddenly, a particularly handsome and medal bedecked officer rises from the midst of the British officers, glass in hand. [8D] The noisy rabble in the room does not comprehend that a toast is about to be given, so Barthlomew takes charge (as is his want) and lets loose a customarily viscious alert to all....yip! [}:)] The room finally falls silent...mostly out of disbelief in the scene above.

"Officers Boggon and White! T'was a jolly good thrashing you administered to your previous opponents what what?! (female type giggling in the background) [:X] That was to be expected of course. You now have one last task before you. That is to defend the Crown and England's honor in this final contest of wills. Gentlemen, here's to your next glorious victory over these amateur "soldiers"...God save the King!"

With that, the standing officer hurls his glass in a traditional finale to the toast. Unfortunately and quite by accident of course, [;)] the glass shatters against the back of Al Amos' racoon covered head. [xx(] Bartholemew in turn, (he just has to do everything I do) nudges his glass off the rail, which smashes over Bill Peters' head below. [B)]

Let the games begin!...yap!

Wait what's that cloud? Better yet, that smell? Crimeny, I thought we asked Morgan to sit in the bleachers, not the reserve boxes!

Sir Natta, please pass that bucket or eau d'cologne you keep in your train. Ach, never mind, just pass the eau d'vie from your estates in Brittany.

Sigh! [:(!] (passing a small ornate bottle of my third best cologne to my manservant for delivery to woodsman Morgan, with instructions for him to keep it as I do not want to hazard dousing myself later with what's left of it).

(Reports of His Majesty's forces drawing first blood reach the Tavern amid great cheering by all in red.)

"Right then! There it 'tis! The battle's won and therefore,
so ends the American dream eh what? HAAAAHAHAHAaaaa!
[:D]

Wait! The Americans have gotten the routing in check![:)]

Look there on the left! The King's Own 4th have turned tail. Where is Walter?

Mon Dieu! Behind the lights it's McClellan's boys! Huzzah! Will Amling's Rifles withstand the assault.

Where is the 1FG? Will they turn to throw back the threat? I see Bloody Phil out there beating them with the flat of his sword, and I hear the yap of a poodle (is that Bart locked in a warm emobrace with Hargreaves' leg?).

C'mon lads! I know you can throw the entire lobster horde in flight all on your own! But leave something for the rest of the boys!

What's this??!! I looking at the replay of turn 7, I see what caused the rout. Gremmels and the Grenadiers of the 1st NJ Regiment pushed into the center of the Northumberlands throwing back their columns. Lt. Col Rueter, commanding the 2nd Brigade was set upon ,without an escort, by a company of claymore wielding celts - Malone's lights! 28 points for capturing Stefan (50 points for a victory).

Hurrah!

Seems to be much hair pulling and gnashing of teeth on the British side. Fear has been stuck into the hearts of their leaders, the black shadow of self doubt gripping at their souls.

Due to other comittments, Rich White has asked Hargreaves to step up to the plate. A chance for greatness? Perhaps. Will Gordon and Glyn be able to pull the fat from the fire? Or is it the death knell for the forces of the Empire?

Sir Natta, a small wager on this one? I like the American chances to win this. 2-1 hogsheads of Madeira on victory (draw and defeat to you).

Hmm, you have me at a slight disadvantage Sir. I'm not able to view the battlefield from a nearby hilltop as you are, and so know not the dispositions of the troops and their situations. However, my confidence in His Majety's war machine is unfailing, I'll wager a dozen silk kerchiefs and throw in a gilt walking stick against your kegs of libation. Little Bartholemew has grown quite fond of the grape, ever since that near disaster at Bennington a fortnight ago. [:I]

Things are getting tense out on the field as a large gap has opened up between the two British wings A casual glance toward the luxury suites to judge the reactions of the British High Command, and wait where's Bloody Phil???

Then down on the field, in a move that would make Jerry Jones proud, what should appear in a cloud of perfume and Powder, it is Sir Phil being lowered onto his horse like a knought of old. (Honestly, I have never seen a horse draped in as much lace and velvet as this one.) One of the courtiers blows the the chase and the entire train lumbers off.

Yes, it is true. Sir Phil has stepped forward to defend what little dignity Olde England has left. (For more on that, see the Gates quote elsewhere - I can't believe that didn't even get a rise out of the redcoats.) The final 5 turns will see Garry Cope and Tom Gremmels trying to land the knockout punch on the The Big Red Team of Natta and Boggon. I guess Phil was worried about that bet. Fortunately, it shouldn't keep him out of the Hall of Fame. Of course, if he bet against his team, that's another matter.
