Gents,

We have had reports from the NCC of problems in MP games after installing the latest version of DirectX. After further investigation it seems there are a ton of problems with the latest release. We highly suggest you do NOT install this update.

There are a couple of games coming out within a week or so that I'm interested in that install DirectX 9. Any new news Rich?

None that I am aware if...Microsoft will have to issue a patch on their site - http://www.microsoft.com/directx

Not sure if y'all know this but not all video cards are DirectX 9.0 capable in the first place. Patch or not you still may not be able to use the new version of DirectX and I know for certain that MANY companies are not even programming for it yet.
As long as the shooter crowd and others demanding faster and better graphics are boosting this business you can continue to expect to have a string of games on your PC go extinct sooner or later.
As long as MS keeps pumping out one OS after another the second para is sure to be certain as well. For instance I just found out that The Operational Art of War does not work on XP. Talonsoft referred to it on the phone as an OLD GAME. I wonder what they think of BG Waterloo or BG Gettysburg!!
I am always hesitant to install a new version of DirectX and it pays to read the side of the box before you buy a game. So far I havent been hit for incompatiblity but I am sure that someday soon I will say YES to installing DirectX and my PC will no longer play 1776!
I hope to have white hair by that time! Or have no hair at the rate I am going.

The recent issue of Computer Games pg.66 2002 The Year that was in video cards talks about which card can handle DirectX 9.0. Read it before you decide to install the newer version. Perhaps other cards will have a new driver come out to support the new X but dont count on it.
