Any takers for the Colonial rag tag Army?

Send courier to my tent. MDF is a must.

Paul,

I have to pass on MDF. In this engine plyaing that way requires formation changes before moving of a unit. It is very frustrating to have to do that since I am so accustomed to being able to change formations anytime during a unit's movement playing without MDF in all my other games.

If the engine were like the Nap one, that allowed formation change anytime during a unit's movement while playing with MDF on, then I, too, would request it. [;)]

No defensive fire while you move through a unit's field of fire? Very unrealistic. For that reason alone I wouldn't play with MDF. [8)]

Dierk,

In the Nap engine, you can play with MDF & ADF on, which allows you to play in phases and for the defense to shoot automatically while you move about within LOS & range.

I think the EAW engine does this as well, its been awhile since I tried it. [:)]

That means units get to fire automatically in the opponent's movement phase and manually in the own defensive phase? That seems like a lot of fire. [:0]

It is. Rich White and I did a trial a while back where we played the same scenario (Bennington?) with and with out MDF. The MDF was far bloodier as every possible unit fires during the Def phase (using ADF) as opposed to the single phase game where only units that moved were shot at (and then not all).

Could this MDF/ADF combo be used to balance some scenarios? Like a Rhode Island? A scenario where someone is outnumbered fighting a withdrawal that ends up out of range of their opponents def fire? Of course if you are outnumbered and make a stand, I imagine you would be shot up pretty good.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, this was not a thread for whether ADF or MDf is better, each has his own opinion. I have played even the President of CCC and did not get as many snickering.

You either want to fight, or you don't. [:D]

I play with Rifles on so where the scenario has them I feel the Colonials may use them.

I also am playing for fun, and could care less if I win or lose, I really enjoy the tactics of the game.

And speaking of changing formation, this should be fixed anyways. If Cannons can move an unlimber, why cannot Cavalry and Infantry? MDF or ADF! If you have the points left, changing formation should always be allowed.

And I thought you Colonials were fighting for Free Country which include the right for free speech and freedom of choice! While you King's men are just puppets of some Tyrant! (Even though he does pay good.)

That is why I shall continue with the Indian Alliance, I am not forced to the King's bidding or fight for some freedom that seems to mean taking away my great homeland! Of course, a little Firewater and gold in my pocket may induce me to look the other way...

I do scalps for a price also...
