Is a supply source only purpose to keep Artillery from Out of Ammo or Low on Ammo while Ammo still exists when Isolation Optional Rule on[?]

If a scenario has 100 rounds for the Artillery, after 100 rounds is fired Artillery is out of Ammo for all Artillery even if Supply Source exists[?]

A supply source essentially keeps a fort from Isolation if surrounded[?]

I am trying to understand Supply Source, user Manual not 100% clear.

Supply source has nothing to do with ammo supply.

It's only reason is to negate isolation effects, if that optional rule is used. It was added so that one could be surrounded in a fort and not become isolated.

Artillery ammo is alloted by the scenario designer during creation of the scenario.

You must have one supply point to fire any cannons. Emplaced artillery and ships do not use ammo, but you still must have one round left to fire them.
