You guys are doing too much work!

Once 1776 went over to the newer style with the 1.03 patch individual leader/faces bmp files where no longer needed.

If a universal leaders.bmp file was assembled (with all the historical leaders, and club member faces) it could be put into the INFO sub-folder. Then players could make any oob they wanted to and simply refer to the leaders.bmp index to map the correct face to the correct leader.

Since beards weren't really acceptable in the British army during the 18th century, a real life photo would be inappropriate. Perhaps I can root out an old (over 10 years old in fact) one? Otherwise, I'll try to find something suitable.

Heads still need to be shrunk to the bmp though!

Al - maybe you can take the tourney bmp file and tack it together for an info folder *.bmp. (or explain to me clearly how to do it!)

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Its easy.

In the old BG games and the earlier version of 1776 the leader.bmp had to be laid out exactly as in the oob for each oob.

With 1812 that changed and that change was retrofitted to 1776 in the 1.03 patch. Now all you do is create a .bmp file 10 faces wide and however long you need. Then you create an index showing what name with what number. The first picture is 0 the next is 1 and so one. Rich has a fine example of Wo1812 at his SDC site.

With a master leader.bmp file in the Info sub-folder, any oob can be created and the designer just needs to plug the appropriate number into each leader's line on the oob. It is the third number position.

So if someone would go through all the 1776 leader/faces.bmp files and compile a master bmp file, then (if desired) add the club memeber faces to it. We could distribute it around the club for easier oob/scn creation.

Once this is done, then all the individual leader/faces.bmp files could be deleted after updating the oobs. Therefore saving HD space.

For example currently there exists a Germantown.oob, and a Brandywine.oob each with their corresponding leader.bmp files. Now these two battles were fought by the same two armies fairly close together. So the two leader.bmp is fairly repitious. By using a central leader.bmp file then the duplication could be eliminated.

Al ,

I don't see a master leader.bmp in the info folder. It would make life much easier in the long run to append it.

Will HPS be tackling this in a future patch? (Since the engine supports it?

No the leader file would have to be named leaders.bmp or the prgram would not recognize it.

Wouldn't it be easy to do? You could name it any way you like and refer to it in the scenario files? Of course, you would have to change the OOBs.

Mike,

NO there isn't a master leader.bmp file as of yet, and I doubt if HPS will be doing anything like that.
