I'm putting together an OOB file for some wargame scenarios, and I like to the native language of whatever army I'm structuring whenever possible.

So, for my Russians I'm needing some terms, using the Western alphabet.

For example; I'm using 3-ya diviziya for the 3rd Division, shtab ofitsery for Staff Officers, etc.

In light of the above how would I term the following?

1st Western Army
Right Wing
Left Wing
Center
Cavalry or Cavalry Reserve
Artillery Reserve
Advanced Guard
Rear Guard
General Headquarters
Headquarters Escort

Also if a detachment were made to cover a flank would the force be named after the commanding officer? Such as a task force of jagers detached to watch a woods under the command of Polkovnik Stepanov. Would that be Stepanov's Detachment? and how would it look in westernized Russian?

Making some what-if, table-top scenarios for HPS' Austerlitz game and HPS' Jena game. I have a few scenarios up already (AW_001, AW_002, etc, etc), for free. You can find them at:

Many thanks for your help.

... and any links to oobs with officers, too.

I found it!

In Google Translate there is a translation box that shows the Russian word in Cryllic, but (and I just noticed it by chance) is a 'westernized' version of the word, and below that a list of possible definitions. Who knew? ;-)

Hi Al,
Google translate could be tricky at times. Send me through what you got - I will check for errors.

Google is a good tool to use when you know the 2 languages... It doesn't always differentiate meanings within particular context. It's always good to have someone checking after...
