I had been browsing Amazon a few days ago looking for new Napolonic titles - i had seen a title on Napolean's 9th of the Line Regiment , ( which I believe fought in all of his major engagments). I should have bought it at the time but was busy and exited the site , now cannot seem to find it - anyone else familiar with the book ?

This is a letter the Pierre sent to the Cabinet regarding the elections for President and PRO. I will add that with respect to a point made by Pierre that cabinet members cannot support one candidate over another - there is nothing I the rules that say they cannot - and in fact has been the practice in many previous elections - If fact in real life - sitting elected officials endorse candidates all the time.

Gentlemen,

I have had correspondence with Todd regarding the post on the 15th to the Coalition members. I have two or three issues with this.

Mark you mentioned that as a member you are allowed to state your opinion. I mentioned to Todd that I thought it was inappropriate, also stating that the Campaigning period was over. Todd disagreed and basically said campaigning could be done during the voting process. WHY DO WE HAVE 3 PHASEs in the process? Nomination, campaigning and voting????????????

Your post Mark was also slanderous. BTW

As President and or Member of the Cabinet you have more influence than a common member. To me what you did was a very bad lack of judgment.

This is like a Boss asking a pretty employee out on a date. In his defense in front of his boss He states I was asking as an ordinary guy liking a girl. BUT IT IS NOT. You could have the best intentions but that is not what the pretty employee might interpret. GEE I might get fired if I don’t say yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What are you guys thinking? And Todd supporting the action?

Can you now see, the both of you, the impropriety of the Cabinet actively supporting one candidate over the other, which Mark you have stated during the campaigning and then grievously adding to it by sending out an emails to all the Coalition members, and not only that slandering both me an Jeff. Todd you stated support this as well

You should be both be kicked out of the club. You kicked out some that did less than this. Rich Hamilton, give me a break.

Mark you stated you wanted peace. Well you just declared War on me and Jeff. Maybe it was not intentional and I would like to believe that but the situation is intolerable.

This must be addressed with an appropriate action. What are you guys going to do?

Pierre

The Cabinet's Response was

Dear Pierre:

Thank you for your recent emails to the cabinet at large, as well as to individual cabinet members, expressing your concerns with the voting process. In our response, we have tried to address all of your issues.

As we have reiterated to you several times, it is our firm position that this election is being conducted in full compliance with the member approved rules of the NWC.

This election process that is being followed was first used in the 2011 Presidential election for the club. It was put into place precisely to move away from the process that you are advocating should be used now.

This same election process was also used in the PRO election held earlier this year.

As it is a legitimate election in accordance with the current Club Rules, it would be unfair to halt the ongoing election at this point in time.

The issues that you have raised are duly noted, and those made by others have been noted as well, and addressed by the Cabinet as we felt were warranted.

There are some valid points that are worthy of consideration which could possibly be used to improve the election process in the future, once the ongoing election is concluded. Any proposed revisions to the election process would have to be placed in front of the membership, and approved by their majority vote in accordance with the Club Rules, before such revisions would become effective.

Having said that, it is our contention that there are serious flaws in many of the arguments that have been presented, both by yourself as well as by others, in recent posts and emails. One such example being your assertion that the Cabinet somehow “kicked” Rich Hamilton out of the club when, in point of fact, Rich Hamilton resigned entirely of his own free will.

It is the Cabinet's decision that the ongoing election will continue to its proper conclusion.

We assure you that every ballot received will be tabulated in accordance with the current Club Rules.

We encourage you to allow the ongoing election process to continue. Upon its conclusion, you may resubmit any concerns that you still have.

The Cabinet of the NWC is composed of members elected by the membership - the PRO Todd Schmidgall by an election held earlier this year (using this same process) and Mark Jones as President, elected to the position three times by the membership, and Al Kling as CiC of LGA.

We will use all our governing authority to stop any attempt to usurp the legitimate election process, and any effort to otherwise continue the undue influencing of the election process that is currently underway.

Please be aware that I have included Al Kling in this email as he also an elected member of the NWC Cabinet.

Best Regards,
Mark

If you have an e-reader, then go to google books and look for the free stuff. LOTS of Napoleonic works from the 1800's available.

Greetings officers,

While on vacation I picked up for some light reading, Russia Against Napoleon by Dominic Lieven (published 2010, Viking).

The book covers the period of campaigns from 1812-1814, and provides an in-depth POV from the Russian side, seldom found in the West.

I skipped ahead to the Campaign of 1813 (figuring I'll read the 1812 portion while locked in a classic Maine nor'easter winter  ).

Although I was somewhat disappointed in the description of Lutzen, Bautzen was a bit better, but the surprising masterpiece was for Kulm.

This battle was covered in such detail, it read like a blow by blow account, and I truly felt like I was there struggling amidst the bitter mountain tracks, among the staff officers planning their desperate maneuvers to find/escape their opponents.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the final three years of the Wars, especially for the focus on the Russian POV.

Regards,
