Greetings officers,
While on vacation I picked up for some
light reading,
Russia Against Napoleon by Dominic Lieven (published 2010, Viking).
The book covers the period of campaigns from 1812-1814, and provides an in-depth POV from the Russian side, seldom found in the West.
I skipped ahead to the Campaign of 1813 (figuring I'll read the 1812 portion while locked in a classic Maine nor'easter winter

).
Although I was somewhat disappointed in the description of Lutzen, Bautzen was a bit better, but the surprising masterpiece was for Kulm.
This battle was covered in such detail, it read like a blow by blow account, and I truly felt like I was there struggling amidst the bitter mountain tracks, among the staff officers planning their desperate maneuvers to find/escape their opponents.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the final three years of the Wars, especially for the focus on the Russian POV.
Regards,
