1730 Action before Acquennes, the Duke of Brunswick commanded an advance Guard that moved to cut the French retreat from Nivelles. When once again he ran into the French Cavalry Division of General de Division Domon 3e cavalerie who where holding the bridge that led into the town of Acquennes. Frederick William brought up his whole command and attacked the 400 Chasseurs that held the other side of the Bridge. Firing came from French Horse Artilary guns six of them. Frederick William guns have not reach him at this time but that did not stop him from deploying his troops, who open up a murious fire on the French troopers of the 4 th and 12th e Mounted Chasseurs. With over 3000 light infantry Frederick William was more then determan to cross over and tack Acquennes. Major Baring was bring up the rear with 7000 light infantry a mix bag of 95th rifles and KGL rifles and 11th e east Indian jagers also 35th e Belgian jagers plus Artilary and Nassau lights which will add another 5000 light riflemen plus 1000 British light dragoons under Major General Vandeleur 4th light Cav brig. Mean while Col Weimars 2nd Brig of Nassau’s were crossing the bridge to the north of the command to come around behind the French at Acquennes with another 5000 light infantry.

At Nivelles Col Beaulieu’s 2nd Brig of Hanoverians were closing the gap on the French in Nivelles. The French under General Div Berthezene 11th Div III Corps with General de Brig Dufour were putting up a stiff resistance. The French III Cav div were trying to open the way for a French counter attack on the road to Mont-St-Jean led by the super heavy Carabiniers. Oberst Offermann the second in command of the Black Brunswickers was holding the line against the French III Cav Corps while the might of the whole British Army under the Duke of Wellington was pressing down on the French III Corps. With the Allies holding the high ground the French artillery with great range was tacking a toll on the advancing Allied troops.
South of Malplaquee in the forest Prussian GeneralLt Thielemann’s III Korps are trying to clear the French out off the forest. The French seems to be led by General de Div d’Erlon‘s I Corps supported by elements of the French Young Guard.
On the road leading to Loupoigne Maj Schmidt of the IR # 9 is trying to remove the French IV Cav from the road who are supported by members of the French Imperial Guard Young and Old. Major Schmidt is confident that the Prussian I and II Korps will send reinforcements to the work that lay ahead of him. After moving the Young Guard Tirailleur’s off their position he turned his lads to the task of firing on the French Heavy Cav the 4e Cuirassier’s of French Col Ordener who had one of Major Schmidt’s units completely surrounded. At Genappe Major Schmalensee along with his Brig of the 3rd Neumark Ldw Rgt battalions are surrounded but pushing towards the French Grand battery infect they rest on the flank of the French guns.
And yet another Prussian is showing heroic veal by pressing on the French who cover the road out of Genappe by attacking the French General de Div Pecheux IV French Corps, Oberst Funck of the 14th Infantry Brig.

1815 hours the sun was still high in the sky on this hot summer’s day and the battle rages on. On the Allied left the Hanoverians were hoping that the French would pull out of Nivelles or at least stop cooking! The odor of their garlic and onions and Lord knows what else they were cooking was chocking them. If the French knew said Major General Lambert to Lt General Decken’s how many of our lads had to return to the rear because of the gas warfare that they were waging they would run us out of Nivelles without losing a man.
Meanwhile General Major Bussing was countering the French odor did I say oh dear! With East Indian curry that was clouding the eyes of the French defenders north of the town.
Also as the Scottish light infantry advance the French General’s were worried that their young garcons might mistake the Scott’s for Amazon’s and fall in love and refuse to fight.
The French put the best and loudest drummers they could hire in the front of their men and instructed the noncommissioned officers to get the garcons to yell V’L French Vie’ Emperor hoping to get the Belgians to brake ranks and rejoin the French! After hearing that the British served the Dutch and Belgians tea and cookies they thought that would win them.
But the Duke knew just what to do he gave them stolen French wine that the 95th Rifles had captured in the French rear earlier around the town of Acquennes. Where, the French Light Cav are now holding the bridge that leads into the town.
Meanwhile General Vandamme was ready to shot General Berthezene who was busy reading the latest news from Pari on fashions and the latest perfumes that the Royalist was using. He told the General that you most be always ready to countercharge or retreat. Nay “Monsieur you most be always well dressed and smell like a Nobleman said Berthezene”. “After all I am a count”!
French General de Brig Lafitte on the right of the allied line was complying about his division commander looks that every time he faced him he had to turn his head, do to the missing teeth and the disfigured face of that division commander face. That was his reasoning that a thousand legers of the 8th Léger’s had not attacked the few Brunnschweig’s to his front.
French General de Division L’ Heriter and General de Brig Guiton was eyeing a river that was on the French right and the Allied left for a counter charge when General Kellermann had to remove one of them because he was setting, well let me say that it’s been a while since he last use the latrines.
Kellermann look at the orders for a counter attack and judge it to costly. When he thought that his horsemen who also been in the saddle to long to charge over a river and then set and wait to reorganize themselves it might make the enemy runaway but he could not use enough o’ de ‘ toilet to cover up the smell of over a thousand men and that many more horses. O’de pew! “What horrible way to win a battle he said”.
Meanwhile General Barnes of the British general Staff was running all over the battle field when a French gunner was tired of turning his gun every time he moved fired and missed thinking that it was Wellington. What he didn’t know was that Barnes was looking for the Duke who also had a hard day and was busy in the latrine.
Lt. General Picton was hiding his lads behind the woods to the right of Kellermann, waiting for them to finish refreshing themselves with even more de’ ore (French cheap perfumes). “Oh my god said Picton to General Kempt the smell of the saddle rot”! Hold the lads here till they finish. You see now why these Frenchee wear so much perfume.
Meanwhile Prussian General Major Treskow II of the 1st Kavallerie Brig was having the same problem as the French Cav his Dragoner’s ate sausages before going into battle and 200 + of them, will less say unable to attack. “Oh de pew “
Major General Somerset on the other hand had no problem with his troops at all tea and cookies don’t give you digestive problems! He hide his troopers this hour behind the Prussian Artillery. Did I say behind! Any way the Prussian were trying to put a dent in the many French squares that stood in front of them. On the other hand the French were very happy to be in squares considering that the Prussian gunner were not all that good in aiming. Did I say aiming  !
Meanwhile moving to the Allied right more Allied Cav were just standing still! General Merlen was waiting till all the Prussian Kav was killed before he would move on the French numerous squares and Artillery guns not to mention that it’s been two hours that they have been in this position…
Prussian General Lt. Graf Gneisenau was pushing his men though the wood and attacking the French flank. With great success he was pushing the French toward their squares that set in the clearing to their east.
Later it was founded out that the Prussian solders fought so well in the forest, was because the amount of poor woodland animals they captured and plan on cooking once the French were pushed out of the woods. It was unheard of that e class troops could beat aa+ troops.
The poor and hungry Old and Young Guardsmen looked worried when they reformed their lines. What a perfect place to hide all day who would have guess that the best of the best was camping in the woods eating and drinking while their comrades in arms were dying in the clearing.
Looking over the horizon was general de division Subervie thinking what beau follows these Prussian Westfal. Lw. Kav are when to his own surprise they charged at his own mounted Chasseurs. I wish that we keep our tight fitting hussars jackets he thought. But it was too late they were now on his men before he could order a counter charge.
Meanwhile at the same location General Trip cav also set waiting for the Prussian to clear the wood. “I say what could be keeping them chaps he thought”.
General Trip thought about how wonderful and extraordinary his own light Dragoons look with their bright blue shakos gold trimmed tops their blue uniforms with red facing and gold shoulder broads. And tight fitting hussar pants much too elegant to waste on the French. Sire his ADC called to him you are drooling Sire the lads might see you!
Meanwhile on the Allied right FM Blucher ordered and all out attack on the French at Genappe. He noticed as he was moving though the town a small pub and a very beauteous well endowed full figured Madame as he trotted by on his white charger.

The time 1830 the place at the bridge to the town of Acquennes, standing on one side the eastern side is French General de Div Domon with his light Cav div. On the other side the western side stands Hzg Von Braunschweig and his Brunschweig Contingent ready to cross. All that stands between them is six French cannons and eight East Indian cannons. The allied light pours across the bridge running into a sq of mounted Chasseurs! With the help of the 95th rifles they hope to be across the next hour.
Meanwhile at Nivelles, Dutch Major General Eerens has taken the town and the French are hurrying southeast. French General de Brig XI Div III Corps holds a small but important part of the town on the French left flank. French General de Brig Plat VI Corps has thrown in reinforcements to stabilize that flank. The French line from the eastern side of Nivelles to forest to the northeast was the French III and VI Corps plus the III Cav Corps, the Allied line was commanded by Olferman on the left and Lt. Col Colbome on the right. French General’s of Brig Schaeffer and Dupeyroux were captured and Killed was general de Brig Desprez.

Holding the gateway to Nivelles is the FRENCH 3rd Cav Div under General div Domon 600 Chasseurs and 5 Cheval Artillery pcs. Attacking him is the Duke of Brunswick with 2400 Allied light Infantry and 8 guns. The Bridge was taken by the 16th Dutch Jagers but the town of Acquennes still is in Domon‘s hands. Help is on its way for the Allies from the road to Nivelles, in the form of Col Beaulieu’s Hanoverians 1000 of them plus 64 Queens own Hussars.
The town of Nivelles is in the Allies hand at 1845 hours; Lt General Decken’s Hanoverians Reserves has cleared the town of all French resistance. French General Brig Lagarde III Corps XI Div holds the French Left out of the town; French General Brig Plat II Corps VII Div holds the center of the French line. The French Super Heavy Cav the Carabineers cleared the front between the river and the French left of Highlanders skimmers running off a couple of thousand skimmers across the river. The French III Cav Div has cleared almost all the Allied Brunswick skimmers as while.
At this hour there’s very little Action in the center of the battle, just Prussian Artillery fire at the many French Squares in the center of the battle field.
North of the village of Fonteny was where the real fighting was taken place the Prussians under General Lt. Count Gneisenau vs the French 1St Corps Col Gentry held the lift 1st Div and in the center was Général Brig Qulot to his left is General Brig 1e Veille garde Cambronne, next to the Old Garde is General De Div Durtte IV Div I Corps, standing next to his Div is the Young Guards. Captured were General Div Michel Guard and General Div Morand Guard and killed was General Brig Henrion.
South of Genappe the main Prussian push was still moving the French back. The French reestablished their battle line with Artillery and Cavalry in the rear. The French line of defiance was the 5e Cuirassiers about 300 disordered by retreating Infantry. General de Brig Farine XIV cav Div was trying to reorganizes his command, added by the 15e Dragoons. With Imperial Guard on the right and the IV in the center, the French were falling back protecting the Artillery.
